Re: Upsets

My recollection is that this was considered a seriously dangerous fight for Joe to take - Lacy was unbeaten, and was a knockout / stoppage artist, and a real beast at the weight.. Seem to remember him being touted as a mini mike Tyson at the time. It was definitely seen as at least a 50-50 fight, an...

Re: Upsets

How about Pat Cowdell & Najib Daho ? The older British champion Cowdell devastated in a round by Daho in the first fight, only to reclaim the championship from Daho a year later. Will never forget that first fight - it was shown live on tv at the time, and was a huge shock to see Cowdell blasted...

I always thought the theme from ITV's 'Fight Night' with Gary Newbon was brilliant.

Re: Most disappointing performances by Brits in world title fight

Paul Butler vs Tete - couldn't get past the jab, and I felt the uppercut that dropped him in the gods at the back of the Echo.

Would have liked to have seen Najib Daho vs Joey Jacobs - would have been a great manchester derby at the time.

Everlast Europe Catalogue

Was looking at the Everlast Europe catalogue, thinking about a new set of leather gloves for some bag work in my garage. (Sick of being a fat, flabby git) Got to page 31 of the catalogue, and there was a wonderful training picture of 'Andre Ward - WBA, WBC and The Ring Super Middleweight Champion'. ...

Re: FROCH IS RATTLED!!!!!

Must admit I sat there cringing through the whole thing - it just lacked class - so unprofessional. I think Froch is vastly experienced and tough as old boots - whilst Groves has youth, and that wonderful self belief that a fighter carries around before his first defeat. That may be enough to carry ...

Re: Intimidating and non-intimidating boxers

Ended up sitting next to Joey Jacobs at a regional ABA's once in about 85 - can remember thinking how thick his neck was - he was built like the proverbial brick outhouse. Scared the crap out of me at the time.

Re: Quick quiz no10

Mickey Rourke made his pro debut on same card as Phil Jackson - ex IBC Heavyweight champion at the time of Rourke's first fight. Crap title, I know - but lennox also held it at one point.

Re: Hatton fight is it free

Also being shown live at Cineworld cinema in Didsbury, near Manchester, just like the old closed circuit Ali fights in the 70's. Didsbury is in Manchester. Didn't know about the fight though, any tickets left? Sorry, gave the location description for anyone who wasn't familiar with our neck of the ...

Stephen Smith getting dq'd when his trainer (and dad, if I remember rightly) jumped into the ring after Hatton cut him with either a forearm or elbow. Dodgy shot caused the cut anyway.

Derry's on the comeback trail - did brilliant in prizefighter, exorcised some ghosts, and was unlucky to have had a tough semi final, leaving him pretty drained.
He should beat Lawton easily.
