Should wash some of the blood and guts off the hands of the Saudis and their murderous leader the Prince.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Jack Johnson, Did it happen?
I recall correspondence many moons ago with Lew Eskin, editor of Boxing Illustrated in which he said he'd looked into this fable back in the late 70s and could find absolutely nothing to support it. Back then there were still people alive who could have had first hand knowledge. This was likely a fa...

Re: Ratings - please read before commenting
I'm puzzled. What were Coghill's top five performances? He beat Charlie Horn (?) a second rater, and got a TKO over Pat Doran who dislocated his shoulder and could not continue. Doran had stopped Coghill in an earlier fight. Coghill KO'd Kelly Mansfield and a very young Alec Pooley. Aside from that ...

Re: Ratings - please read before commenting
Just my humble opinion but while it makes sense to rank active fighters with complete records, trying to rank All-Time boxers is a mug's game. No way should a guy with a 9-7-0 record (Gordon Coghill) be ranked over a guy with a 31-12-4 record (Aussie champion Ern Waddy). Just an example.

Saudi Arabia. The place that sheltered the 9/11 bombers and kidnapped and butchered a journalist? Great place to showcase your sport.

Re: Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou - October 28, 2023
Fury is an overrated slob in a division full of slobs with maybe two or three half-decent fighters who compete at most twice a year. Boxing was once the most popular spectator sport in the world. It's not even in the top ten now. If you want to see top guys battle it out on a regular basis, you need...

Re: Boxin triva/Did u know??Ketchel's kd of Jack Johnson was BS?
I wouldn't say heavyweights today are better. They're much larger that's for sure. Most are slower by comparison. They fight much much less frequently than most of the fighters from even thirty years ago. If they fight twice in one year it's considered remarkable. As is often pointed out athletes wh...

Re: Brain damage (CTE) in past eras
Taking multiple blows to the head and having your brain slosh around is definitely contributing to dementia, but old age and genetics are also contributing factors. George Chuvalo was plenty sharp until he hit his 80s. We all lose something as we grow old, even shlubs like Trump who never took a pun...

Who Woulda Won? Colin Bell Vs. Big Bill Turner.
Two old time Aussie heavyweights. Bell had the experience and probably better boxing skills but Turner was a monster by comparison with power. Each at his best I can't figure this one. Bell stood about 5'10" or 5'11" with 72" reach. Turner was almost 6'3" with a 79" reach. B...

Introduction of Padded Canvas in Ring?
I noticed in a photograph taken around 1912 or so that the floor of the ring seems to consist of what appear to be wooden boards. When I did a quick check of the phrase "On the Canvas" in old newspapers, the first instance came up late in 1922. Any idea when padded canvas came into play in...

Re: Was the Undisputed Championship legitimate during existence of the Colored title?
Prior to the TV era, the print media dominated and internationally known sportswriters often took it upon themselves to rate fighters and suggest contenders for champions. When Jeffries was still champ some experts thought he should fight Jack Johnson or Marvin Hart. During Jack Johnson's reign Sam ...

Re: A Forgotten Heavyweight-Joe Baski-A late 1940's "Contendeh"
Don't know why I didn't notice this before. Baksi had one fight in 1950, three in 1951 including a TKO over Jimmy Rouse December 13, 1951 at Troy NY. Then didn't fight again until 1954. What happened? The IBC & a certain mob guy controlled boxing in those days. Was Baksi blackballed by Norris? I...

Re: Was This Ever Sorted?
Paul Norman gave up on TB 2013 and never finished 3.0. TB2013 is a real mess. Most of us gave up on it after about 6 months post-release. It was just too buggy. Boxers were disappearing or having their ratings change or getting mixed up with different weight classes. In my case, it kept crashing unt...

Re: Have we 'Jumped the Shark'?
As bad as it is in Australia, it's even worse here in Canada. We had a brief burst of fighting a few years ago with Denton Daley, but no one is making the news these days. Our media is absorbed with hockey, basketball and baseball.
