Re: The Gloves Are Off | Super Middleweight Special | Roy Jones Jr, Calzaghe, Euabnk, Collins

In 97 Stevie simply ducked Joe, no other way around it,- bitched a retirement a week or so before the fornicating fight!

Re: The Gloves Are Off | Super Middleweight Special | Roy Jones Jr, Calzaghe, Euabnk, Collins

Love Eubank indirectly pulling Roy up on ducking Nunn

Eubank fought those risky fights with top southpaws Rocchi (Germany) and Calz (banger) where Roy & Steve never wouldve

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Collins asked for 3mill. You're an obvious troll who is making stuff up. Umm, okay? I guess Roy's manager lied to John Scully then? I'd appreciate you not talking crap like this and using unwarranted personal insults, thanks If true and they aren't lying, as you might suggest (who are you, by the w...

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Collins was a much bigger name than Frampton. My mum and nan probably know Steve Collins and wouldn't have heard of Frampton

Nigel Benn was a whole other level though

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

He was poorly managed in his career pre-FW. He took thousands of Boston/NY-based Irishmen to Vegas in 89 and never fought there again

Should've been marketed as a 'great white hope' figure and not thrown in with McCallum after 16 fights!

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Steve fought better fighters than Froch fought. Reggie Johnson, Kalambay and McCallum were as good as it gets in the early 90s Reggie looked superb against a young menacing Toney, his KD of Toney trumps Roy's later KD of Toney -pure skill. He beat a 99.9% Toney and RJJ looked scared to try to stop a...

Re: Froch or Calzaghe...but not who's best !

Joe's fights were mostly on Eurosport pre-97, occasionally on tape delay on BBC2 at 11:30pm on a Wednesday night Froch was a BBC1 live or Sky Sports main eventer in his early career With Joe's talent he was so wasted, even the Reid grudge match was six years into his career. He had the talent to be ...

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Uhh, eh? Benn fought DeWitt & Barkley in US, Collins fought Reggie Johnson in the US (while living in Belfast) and Calzaghe fought Hopkins over there So that must prove they wanted to fight the toneys, Jones's and hopkins of this world, those lot had bigger fish to fry then eubank, benn and Col...

How do you know the Yanks didn't avoid the Brits?
I would say it's easy to work out, look at the resumes of the fighters in question.

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Hopkins had agreed to fight JC the first time then doubled his demands the day before. Also Ward, Toney and Jones never left the states during their prime. Benn and eubank have both admitted they were happy making big bucks being the big fish in a small pond. A case could easily made that neither w...

How Eubank withstood Thompson's right hand bombs is beyond abnormal, his left eye was shut so he couldn't even see them and the Cat was like a Heavy making Cruiser! Wtf!

Lots of closet Eubank fans! More popular/cool to like Benn..

Nope, King offered Benn and Jones 25mill apiece. Jones turned it down and HBO counter offered Benn and Jones 10mill apiece

King would've given it all the wrong publicity as a 'revenge mission' $$$

Quote from Roy Jones at a press conf in 1996 after Eubank announced he was out of retirement- 'Chris gets nothing from me. When I was coming up, trying to make a name for myself, he wouldn't give me a shot. Oh but now he's at the end of his career he thinks he can make some money off Roy? I don't th...

Joe found his elusions later in the career, against Lacy, Bika, Kessler & RJJ when he relaxed alot more with arms hanging and relied on natural ability for defence instead of maintaining shape

Re: Froch or Calzaghe...but not who's best !

Froch's fights all looked the same pretty much Joe was hot and cold, many fights were awful to watch but some sensational (Eubank, Sheika, Brewer, Mitchell, Lacy, Kessler) Tough one. Maybe Froch for the earlier domestic dust-ups with Barney, Dodson, Magee, Reid & Hague being fun with that low-sl...

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Not that it means much, but Collins was very public in saying he wanted Jones after his second Benn victory. Maybe it was all talk at that stage and he wanted to retire on a high, but I never doubted his bravery come fight night. I'll never feel sure about where Ottke and Ward fit in. I didn't rate...

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time

Benn offered Graham a career-high purse of £100,000 in summer 88. Bomber turned it down

No offence to Graham but he always found a way to lose his bigger fights
