Re: What do you think is the best scoring system available?

i think that open scoring is a must. I know it would allow the crowd to influence the fight a little bit, by putting pressure on judges, but if that is the case, then so be it. At least fighters know where they stand and have no excuses for not pulling out the knock out blows. Alternatively, if they...

Re: The Strength & Athleticism of Wilt Chamberlain

How is he more of a superhuman than Wilt Chamberlain? (Boxing accomplishments aside). He is the 'Black Superman'. Good at all sports and better than Don Bradman! Must be just about due to represent the Boomers to their first victory over the USA. I would like to see Chamberlain do that. this dream ...

Re: The Strength & Athleticism of Wilt Chamberlain

I wouldnt have thought that basketball has anywhere near the conversion records as Rugby league football, when it comes to success of transferring sports, although i could be wrong. Anthony Mundine (admittedly with some amateur training and good pedigree) became a national champion within about 4 or...

Hi Any collectors have these - I know they exist... eb I have seen a film of the Ray Robinson ko of Joe Curcio in 1946, but I truly doubt there are any film of the 2 Robinson / Marty Servo fights... These 2 marty Servo fights would make for very interesting viewing. If Memory serves me correct, mos...

Re: Rocky Marciano versus Modern Heavyweights via Punch Count

Why don't you could Adamek's punch count as a light-heavy, or Lebedev's as a cruiserweight. You'll probably find Rocky lagging behind. Totally insignificant! Why not count how many punches a round Vitali pounded on poor Shannon Briggs or Adamek himself. it would be interesting to see Adamek's diffe...

How can you read I am being gullible there? I just more or less showed the leading evidence to put to rest the entire story to begin with. It's 95% certain it didn't take place at all, if the Ray Pearson's story was in fact in the Chicago Tribune on December 4th, 1921 BEFORE the Brooklyn Eagle arti...

Are you really saying that Jimmy wilde, who dominated the flyweights back in the 1910's. Since flyweight is 7 divisions removed from the heavyweights, we can put prime Wilde in a time machine, transport him 7 x 10 years into the future... which lands him in the 1980's, where the prediction is, that ...

Re: 1967 NCR-315 Computer Tournament Results

John L Sullivan seems to have got the worst of this computer tournament. No way Braddock Sullivan goes the distance. I think it almost certain that the computer ranked the old and dissasipated Sullivan who lost to Corbett and produced the miracle against Kilrain, considering him a skillless brawler ...

I'll be surprised if it doesn't compare positively with the Paxton book. I wonder if it's possible for the book to contain any true revelations? There is a really good letter from Jem Mace. It describes what sounds like a Slade victory over Alf Greenfield and also suggests that Mace's Beresford loss never happened.

Here is what i think is an undiscovered Herbert slade fight with Jack davis although it may have just been an exhibition that turned it on. The fight seemed to go 4 rounds with both fighters landing big in teh fourth and Jem mace rushing to separate teh fighters.

That list there has Jake kilrain as number 1 in February 1889. Killen was ranked quite highly by the writer at no 6. Frank Glover was an interesting choice at number 8, as was Mike Conley.

But a quick glance at his record shows Kelliher, Lannon, Dalton and Cardiff to start with. There is probably more quality heavyweight wins even there than David Haye probably has. Arguably it isnt too far off what someone like Jimmy Braddock, Michael Spinks , Leon Spinks or even a Gene Tunney. And h...

That is an amazing list. Pat Killen was considered the number one fighter for this long a time and i have never even really bothered to look at his career. This surely cant be right is it? I agree that this would have made a good match, although i lean slightly towards Tunney.

Did you know that Max Schmelling was considered a Dempsey Clone early in his career? Gives an interesting context to this fight, and perhaps also a Dempsey Louis fight.

Saad, by what you are basing your assumption on? The cliched stereotype that Sullivan and the top men in his era were just bar-room brawlers? Sullivan at his best was extremely quick and an excellent feinter. Watching Corbett on film vs Fitz he looks very 'modern' and was clearly a very skilled fig...
