If you compare him to Brock, Peter, Vidoz, Beck etc than Audley is holding his own in terms of how many fights he has had and how quick his standard of opponents have progressed Well I can live with that, perhaps I was being a bit too ambitious for Audley. Personally I think he could have beaten gu...

I think Harrison should got after the EBU title. If he beats Vidoz he then holds the aces over Allegedly as he'll want the likes of Sprott, Williams, Skelton to get a crack at the title. I'm sure that might be in his thinking to get back at him for closing off the British belt. And Vidoz would doub...

But I'm not, I'm just evaluating them based on who they have fought and how they got on.

There are Pros and Cons for either route. I personally think that Audley would have learnt more from the Hersisa/Bonin fights than the Francis one. What suitable "gatekeepers" would you have suggested for his 15th/ 17th opponents instead of Bonin/Hersisa? Good question, but I wasn't reall...

...but Hersisa and Bonin were decent opponents for 15th nad 17th opponents (especially Bonin), they both came to fight and with ambition, neither were there as punchbags I think I'd have to disagree with you there, they did come to fight no doubt about that, but were never going to provide much of ...

Audley gets far too much criticsm and alot of it is from people who only look at the story from one side. Know matter what Audley does there are certain people who will criticise him Well I certainly won't be one of those, I was a big believer after Sydney but my confidence in him has waned over th...

I can't think of a better role model to have. Audley is gonna be stepping it up now, so lets just wait 6 months and see how he does in his next 2 contests, before we claim that he isn't 'walking the walk' I agree that Lennox is an ideal role model, but he also got on with his career while he was do...

By the sound of things he had the nous to work to a plan, which is good going. Don't think he'll be fighting in the UK again now though, he will have some commercial value briefly now as a "name" opponent.

I saw George Foreman say during an interview once that Ray Robinson was the greatest boxer who ever lived, but that Muhammad Ali was the greatest man who ever boxed. Quite profound for Big George.

I'd have to see the Tyson fight to make any re-evaluation of McBride. He was so poor though it's hard to imagine much improvement, very stiff and upright. You saw the fight though - big improvement?

A guy who caught the divisdion at the right time and fooled many of you. But never me. :D You genius you. What are you talking about? If being the best in your division means you just "came along at the right time" then so did everyone! The young Tyson would have made a significant impact...

It's hard to believe how Pickering was almost comically wiped out in a round once in a very premature WBO title crack. That was definitely too deep and too soon. Once again though I swear by the old EBU title, it's doing him no harm at all.

I'm sure Lennox is the role model that Audley has tried to adopt completely - the way he talks, the frustr...

Also, despite the large population the depth of talent in Austrailia, New Zealand and Canada isn't great. The national belt holders are usually poor. That is a factor, however if the belt had some significant prestige to the top fighters of those countries it should still evlevate the title above B...

I found this moving excerpt about Balado's death while browsing the web. It's taken from a very good Sports Illustrated piece on Cuban sport. The full article is at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/events/1996/olympics/storyolympic/cuba2.html . The summer of '94 was the worst in memory. The sugar ha...

Always wondered about the Comm. compared to British belts. I know, with a larger pool of ellidgable fighters, the comm. should carry more esteem than the domestic title, but somehow (maybe it's just me perceiving things) but for me a holder of the Brit belt often seems a slightly better boxer than ...

Roberto Balado

Had he not died tragically in a car accident in 1994 I wonder what Roberto Balado could have gone on to achieve? I believe his death ended a run of 56 unbeaten fights including 3 Worlds golds (1989, 91, 93) and an Olympic gold in 1992. He was also the Val Barker trophy winner for best boxer at Barce...
