Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Johann Duhaupas

Wilder had a fire hydrant in front of him for 11 rounds...the guy punched back and if Wilder hadn't been in top shape he could have been in trouble. I said before he is the closest thing I've seen compared to the heavies of the 70's era.....interesting.

Re: Analyze: Chuck Wepner

He reminds me of guys that we grew up with in the bars...granite chin, big and hard to knock off their feet. Only diff in them and chuck was chuck trained like boxers do and could fight all night, where those bar room brawlers couldn't last long. We all know em.

who trains Wilder ? he looks like the heavy's of the 70's a little...needs a world class trainer and manager.

Re: Pretty Boy win over Canelo: What would it mean for you?

How can he go back in time ? He is as good as anybody from 70's boxing with what he has to fight. He's beat everybody they put in front of him. Hearns and Leonard had both lost by this time in their careers.

Re: gerry cooney

After only a handful of championship rounds he fought Holmes ????? Never could figure that out either. Don't know why his team didn't let him box 8 or 10 more guys and learn a little more. I'll tell ya folks that fight with Holmes was a good one. Gerry did well.

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

At the time I fought Acaries I was trying to give it up. I was cut when I went over there and after about a minute into it I was bleeding pretty bad. That guy was nothing compared to some of my opponents.

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

I really thought I would KO Tony Danza. I dreamed about it many times yet when I saw him at the weigh in, he was 2 hours late, I had doubts. He was not the short little guy I thought he was. Probably and inch taller and 12 to 15 pounds heavier than me.Truthfully it sort of psyched me out. It was goi...

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

I did teach school but not anymore. There was no boxing commission in Florida like there is today. Most shows featured local amateur clubs battling each other followed by the pro's on top. In our town when the commission quit sanctioning amateur/pro cads it killed the sport. You simply couldn't affo...

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

Simmie was a character. He was with the Tony Gardner stable and fought over 300 times. I believe he is incarcerated now.He would fight a little bit until he got hit hard and then there's no telling what he might do to excuse himself. I saw him fight Joey Vincent and he actually did a kip from the ca...

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

I was called by a promoter from Tallahassee to fight Gardner. I accepted the fight of course knowing it wasn't going to end up very well. I did run on the beach every day for a month and got myself in pretty good shape, not boxing shape because we didn't have a gym. As it turned out I may have been ...

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

The first part of my career should have taken place way after it did. I had no manager and pretty much put myself in the position to fight the Orlando bad boys, one after another. Believe it or not I learned some things from those beatings and actually got better as it went on. I gave a pretty good ...

Re: Questions for our own Max Hord

My best effort was losing to Tony Gardner in a 10 round bout. It was like a Rocky movie. He was pretty much shot around that time or I would have been knocked out. Most of my opponents were from the correctional institution or from the tough guy contests. My trainer was an ex marine and we drank bee...
