Cobb had a great chin. So did George Chuvalo.I saw Mike Dejohn lift Chuvalo off his feet with a first round uppercut.Antuofermo was one tough fighter. His bout with Cyclone Hart was a war.I didnt know that Shields is training fighters.Wasn't Ranzany a prison guard? Sutherland was another real good co...

I also remember the Cuevas-Ranzany bout. It was also a bad loss for Ranzany. That said, he was still a very good fighter. As for Shields, I saw his bouts with Leonard, Hearns, Benitez and Cuevas. They were great fighters;Shields was good not great.Ranzany, Shields, Andy Price and Monroe Brooks were ea...

I saw the Leonard-Ranzany fight and the ending was indeed brutal. Ranzany was a very good fighter. In fact, with the exception of De La Hoya, Ranzany was better than any 147 pounder that Shane Mosley has beaten. I would take Ranzany over Six Heads Lewis and Ricardo Mayorga. Leonard's KO of Andy Pric...

I've read the old Ring article about Randall. Sports Illustrated never even ran a small mention of Randall's sacrifice after I wrote to them.Randall should have been the cover story profile in Sports Illustrated last year and not Bob Kalsu(the football player who died in Vietnam 3 years after Randal...

Last summer, Sports Illustrated had a cover story about a pro football player who was killed in Vietnam. The aticle claimed that this man was the only pro athlete to die there. I wrote to Sports Illustrated at the time, and apprised them of Rip Randall-they, in turn, sent me a lame letter contending ...

Mike: The library was not able to get the Las Vegas paper from 1974 so that I could confirm the Garcia-Kolovart result. The asked me for a $10.00 fee to try again to obtain it.I'm not prepared to pay $10.00 for this second attempt.

Urtain certainly garnered attention in the early 70's. It's interesting that in the 1970's, Spain produced 5 world champions from 1971-1977,though only one in all the subsequent years(I think).Castanon was a solid 126 pound contender; Evangelista had some success too at the world class level. I woul...

I read an old post on this site in which someone wrote that he thinks it was either Zulueta or Bud Smith who was killed by gang members in a street brawl.Smith died very young-I don't know the cause. This was also the only reference that I have seen about Zulueta's death(if, in fact, he is deceased).

I saw the Duran-Funaki match. Duran dropped Funaki for a nine count with a body shot before he was defeated.Duran was said to have weighed 218-he sure looked it.I'm not sure of how good of a grappler Funaki is, but I think that a younger, lighter Duran would have KO'd Funaki for certain.
