Re: Fritizie Zivic: how good was he?
all those losses? these came at the tail end of his career when he wanted as much cash as he could get. so he took lots of fights knowing that to be employed meant losing to up and coming guys. if he wins he doesnt get booked in for those matches so much. its simple - the losses came largely due to ...

[quote=Noxy post_id=5401129 time=1595777590 user_id=69804] Outrageously talented, made boxing look easy. When I look back at that time, I can’t help remembering his posse. The brat pack I think they called themselves. Always prancing around at shows, devoid of style or class. In fairness, though, th...

Re: The boxing bookshelf
tuan jim's list is brilliant - I ordered many of them on the basis of it. real winners are TWO TON - one of the best books on our sport and turns galento into a really lovable guy - its that good! the corner men is also wonderful. these guys know boxing better than anyone. buy it. just to add - the ...

Re: The Brawl in Montreal: 40 Years Later
Roberto duran is a greater fighter than ray leonard. no doubt. I often hear ray being called the complete boxer. in my view Roberto is more, has more, of almost everything that ray had, except maybe flashiness and hand speed, but RD had enough speed in those stony fists to make them very tough to av...

Re: Roberto Duran's best middleweight effort ?
been watching tons of duran lately. what an incredible fighter. but I think he must have been a bit crazy. he looked so bad against Kirkland laing. clearly hadn't trained. and then he fights brilliantly against moore and onwards towards the middleweight greats. barkley must be his greatest triumph. ...

for me no version of mike beats evander. holyfield is way too smart for Tyson and the intimidation factor is nullified

Re: Fritizie Zivic: how good was he?
zivic was undoubtedly a true great. in his prime he was a handful for any fighter in his weight class. very very skilled and had ring smarts most fighters can only dream about. some of them were on the dark side but he was always thinking creatively and needs to be accepted as an all time great ligh...

most people think ned was washed up in that last fight. he was an awesome puncher in his pomp even before the infamous "hands of stone" scandal. you may remember, buzz, neanderthal ned was caught holding a rock in each hand in the shortlived bout with maags "the missing link" Led...

i have a video of an even earlier bout; fred flintstone takes on rocky masherano. fred, seconded by barney rubble, is getting a pasting. betty tries to stop it and just as masherano shapes up to deliver the big KO, bam bam comes to fred's rescue with a massive swing to send rocky to sleep. apparantl...

Re: I met John Conteh today.
thats right, ultimately john would have struggled at heavy, though. i reckon he would have given bugner problems in a bout and perhaps lost a close UD over 15 (might have nicked it over 12)
