Re: David Pearce v Funso Banjo. What if?
He was born with an abnormality of the ventricular. He fought with it his whole career, the 90’s fight was interesting as Pearce travelled with Wally his father and trainer by sea to America and then a greyhound across the country to Chicago for 3 days training before fighting. He was poorly managed...

Re: David Pearce v Funso Banjo. What if?
I agree 100%... Pearce fought anyone and everyone on his way to the Welsh, British and European Heavyweight title fights, Pearce was very unfortunate the Cruiserweight division was not active in the UK also. Horace notice and Frank Bruno against David ‘Bomber’ Pearce would have captured Britain’s im...

Re: David Pearce v Funso Banjo. What if?
He would have KO’d him just as he did in sparring! Ask Andy Gerrard 1 Rd
Never saw him again... by all accounts.
Al Syben, Ishaq Hussain, and Huge Larry McDonald are examples of what Pearce did to Big ponderous men in his prime at 23.

Re: How good was Dave Pearce?
David fought Davis, after travelling to America via the Alantic Ocean and then a greyhound from Seattle to Ohio - his management were given money to fly and meet his training camp in Chicago 6 weeks before. It took David 5 weeks to arrive at the fight location - he never saw no money (Mr Alan Athay ...

Re: Why Didn't Frank Bruno fight for the British title ?
His story and trip to France was documented on an ITV Documentary as was the brain scan, Thank you for your kind words You know, I think I vaguely remember that documentary. I would love to see it again. I also recall there was some talk a few years ago of building a statue in Newport as a tribute ...

Re: Best era of domestic heavyweights?
Noticed Pearce had his last fight in the states 6yrs after his previous wouldn't mind knowing the story behind that, also 41 was a young age to die was it illness or something more sinister ? Dropped dead no explanation, he should never have too that fight gave away 5 stone and had not fought for 6...

Re: david pearce cruiserweight
Pearce was as tough as old boots and he could punch. However, although he wasn't that big he wasn't particularly fast or mobile and his skills weren't brilliant. So I think he would have been a good cruiserweight but maybe not the very best. A bit like Carl Thompson perhaps. Regarding David ' Bombe...

Were the Bruno camp afraid of the Bomber :OhYes: Terry Lawless told Mickey Duff at the Royal Albert Hall 'David Pearce vs Gordon Ferris. 'Frank Bruno will never fight David Pearce' Roger Williams was at the meeting, he said at that time in there careers Pearce, was on fire and Frank Bruno, had been...

Re: david pearce cruiserweight
Cruiserweight would have suited him better when it was 190lb. There are some big lumps at cruiserweight now the limit's 200lbs, some of them 3 or 4 inches taller and probably walking round quite a bit heavier than Pearce was. Maybe light-heavyweight would have suited him best. 175lb might well have...

Re: John L. Gardner and Danny Mcalinden
You have to put into perspective that when David 'Bomber' Pearce fought Lucien Rodriquez it was in the largest ring available, which totally played into the Frenchmans hands; he had broken both his hands which is well documented and Paddy Monaghan, Pearce's second refused to travel with David as he ...

@lukep....thanks for the contribution and very interesting to read the stuff about Rodriguez. I've read Bruno's first 'ghosted' book several times and reading between the lines, Frank and his team did view LR as someone who had the potential to be a proper nuisance and they were genuinely surprised...

Re: Why Didn't Frank Bruno fight for the British title ?
Sadly, the Rodriguez challenge finished Dave Pearce as a fighter. Knockdowns apart, he took an horrendous beating and there was clearly something wrong with him by the closing rounds when he just couldn't get out of the way of the Frenchman's punches. You know, I've heard that said before but I jus...

How do you think he would have campaigned at Light Heavyweight?? Re: Why Didn't Frank Bruno fight for the British title ?
That is your opinion and I respect it, but I believe Pearce would have had a brilliant chance to KO Bruno around 1983-84 as he was in his prime, he had KO power and had an iron chin. He might not of, but that is my opinion. My opinion is based on views from others respected in the business around th...
