Re: Boxers Who Only Lost To Good/Great Boxers
this depends how strict you are in what it takes to qualify as a good fighter.............does it have to be someone who is at least a boarderline hall of famer? does an alphabet champ or decent top 10 fighter count? euro champ but no higher? I tried to also take the time into account as well. I’m ...

Re: Boxers Who Only Lost To Good/Great Boxers
I'm looking for boxers who all their losses came against good/great boxers. Ali: Frazier, Norton, Spinks, Holmes, Berbick Leonard: Duran, Norris, Camacho. Leon was a mediocre one. I don't think that is completely accurate. Outside of Coetzee Spinks only lost to world champions until after his 33rd ...

Re: Boxers Who Only Lost To Good/Great Boxers
Because I am bored at work I am using boxrec to help me confirm my suspicions. Hatton only lost to Mayweather and Pacquiao. Corbett's losses were against Jeffries, Fitzsimmons and Sharkey. Pattersons 8 losses are to Maxim, Johanssen, Liston, Ali, Quarry, Ellis. All pretty bloody good fighters. I tho...

Re: Ali and the Heavyweights: What Would You Love to See that Didn't Happened?
Loved to see is too strong of a phrase but it would have been good if he was more active during 64-65. Not that it would have in anyway of helped his legacy all that much. He could have given Doug Jones a rematch during early 64 before Jones lost to Daniels. In hindsight, a one sided as kicking, whi...

Re: On this Date in History
Just happened to run across this and thought this was interesting. On February 5, 1913, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) actually banned fights between fighters of different races. This is in a northern state almost 50 years after the Civil War. Wow. 1913 you say.... I'm sure it had a...

Re: Joe Bugner in care home
Things like this do make it hard to stay a boxing fan IMO. Knowing the long term damage that is happening to these guys, even the ones who we see as defensive genius' will still feel some of these types of effects. We can only hope that it isn't too bad and they aren't too young when it happens.

Re: How Do You Rank These Smaller Heavyweight Champions?
Does Louis belong on this list? Obviously he is a smaller heavyweight by todays standards but sitting around 200lbs for most of his career, he did outweigh the majority of his opponents. It's similar with Frazier although most of his opponents were more or less the same weight as him. The other guys...

Re: How Do You Rank These Smaller Heavyweight Champions?
Some people do overrate him because he was undefeated. Some underrate him for the same reason. He was consistent. when rating him, we should not look at how good Louis, Charles, and Walcott were at their best. We should look at how good they were when Marciano fought him. They all had to varying de...

Re: Will bare knuckle boxing surpass gloved boxing in popularity?
Maybe. I think a deicding factor going forward for combat sports for their popularity are, the ease of following the sport and knowing who the champions and top contenders are, entertainment value, marketing and how good the production of a PPV show is. Boxing sucks in a few of those categories so i...

Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Ken Norton (1st Ali Fight)
Norton has a size, skill and strength advantages here. As others have said, Dempsey is dangerous early but the longer it goes the better for Norton. Norton's weak chin is probably exaggerated a bit as well. He got knocked out 4x in his career but being knocked out by Foreman and Shavers is what woul...

Re: September 25, 1962: Floyd Patterson versus Muhammad Ali
Ali could certainly out box Floyd and use his length, even in 1962 but if he was caught by others around that time then Floyd would have caught him as well. There is no way Floyd knocks him out but he could give the inexperienced Ali more than he could handle, especially over 15 rounds. Floyds own h...

Re: MMA
Think this forum is about the only place where people aren't kicking up a fuss about the decision. 1 and 4 clear Islam rounds, 3 and 5 clear Volk rounds. 2 was a toss up, I thought Island edged it. A close fight that could have gone either way but people want their man to win. Volk is clearly still...

Re: How Do You Rank These Smaller Heavyweight Champions?
Does Charles deserve to be above Marciano? He gave Marciano some of his toughest fights at 34 and based on his career after the first Marciano fight he was very clearly past his use by date. Based purely on age I would think, although it is not guaranteed, that the version of Walcott he beat was bet...

Re: Ali in his prime: 4 guys that SURELY would've beaten him
Immediate rematches weren't a thing during that period to be fair, as Ali himself found out. Liston, Johansson and Patterson all got immediate rematches. Ali got them against Spinks and Norton I think what Syntax was getting at though is that immediate title rematches had stopped becoming common pl...

Re: Who has won titles in boxing and kickboxing?
Damnedest thing I ever saw was Ernesto Hoost getting the crap kicked out of him by Bob Sapp and being eliminated from the tournament only to be allowed back in cuz Bob Sapp could not continue and Ernesto ended up winning the title. That was the greatest K1 event in my opinion. K1 was amazing. I gen...

5 Minute Rounds
Is this something that all combat sports should be thinking to go towards? Less but longer rounds does intrigue me. I know boxing would never change but I definitely think it is a way that MT/KB should look at going. I don't think 5x3 mins is quite enough time.

Re: Who has won titles in boxing and kickboxing?
K1 was the only kickboxing organization that I ever looked at as being for the world's championship. I will say it is more disorganized than professional boxing is where there are many people claiming to be the world's champion in kickboxing and yet they never face each other. To add on to the conf...

Re: Most Emphatic/Dominating Loss For A Prime ATG
John L. Sullivan getting KO'd by Jim Corbett. At 34 in the 1800s plus his lifestyle, it is hard to argue that he was anywhere near his prime. I can see where the guy is coming from in mentioning it because Sullivan for all intents and purposes was the world's champion for 12 years under two differe...

Then as far as Thailand goes there's a couple of stadiums that are synonymous with it like being the Champion of Lumpini Stadium (which essentially means you're the Champion of Muay Thai, at least in your weight class) It's a fascinating system that they have in Lumpinee stadium... You are definite...

A 185 lb(Catchweight) bout to me is basically a Junior Cruiserweight bout, if they were to implement that as a division. 176-200 being the Cruiserweight range "Could be revamped". Eventually perhaps. Realistically, idealistically, and most sensibly, there Needs to be a Junior Cruiserweigh...

Let's be honest, Boxing as a package is shit. There is so much room for improvement. Unfortunately, with the way boxing is run and has been run for 40+ years there is no chance of the improvement ever coming.

Re: Showtime is closing, what now for boxing?
If the boxing organizations and promoters had any sort of brains they would just come together to create a boxing channel, kind of like how WWE has their vault of every classic match in every territory that Vince McMahon ever bought, that way you could get boxing matches 24/7 365 days a year from a...
