Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world

Post by Chepppaaa »

he would beat a prime holmes or prime holyfield.

sure, he wont get much credit, cause he is not an us boxer, but lets be honest about it, the combination of power, punch variety, technic, chin, overall movemant and footwork that he has got is rare for his size. i see not many weaknesses in his game. he got the jab, he can do combos, he s got a big strong neck, can take a punch. he got power in both hands and good footwork, robotic josh and x leg fury would have a nightmare day with him. povetkin wouldnt handle his power and wilder would have the best chances against ortiz, technicly inferior, but wilder has elite power and showed againsst hard punching stiverne that he can handle big punchers, although ortiz punches even harder than stiverne.

sad that cubans arent allowed to box pro, ortiz started pro late and now with 36 he hasnt many years left, but he is a hard worker and i think 2 years at high level is realistic, enough time to take care of parker, wilder and josh. i dont mention fury, cause what i heard he wants to retire soon. he said it often times.

Prime Holmes? That's a bold statement, however I think he could beat any HW out there today.

Hopefully he gets a major fight soon...he's obviously got many tools, but he turns 37 in 3 weeks and may well be past his best already.

If the WBA tournament continues as planned he should have Ustinov then the winner of Wlad-Fury 2. I'm not holding my breath for that to happen, but I would like to see it.

I'm pretty impressed and I would love to see more. I'm not seeing a lot of weaknesses. Man, how nice would it be to see him in there with a great fighter like the ones listed??

he is taller and has a longer reach than holmes, on top weighs much more than holmes, who weighed at his prime around 97 kg, while ortiz who is at his prime right now weighs 110 kg.

i would not say ortiz would have an easy night, holmes was easily one of the best heavys ever, top 7 for sure.

but lets look at the important factors, who has the advantage

jab holmes
power ortiz
strength ortiz
footwork equal
technic equal
chin ortiz
speed equal
punch variation close, but i would say ortiz

simply put it, prime ortiz is overall a better boxer than prime holmes. but since ortiz is cuban and didnt get the opportunity to face big names, simply didnt have the same opportunitys he ill therefore never reach the star level of holmes, but as far as boxing goes ortiz is elite

Here is a dumb question......why aren't guys like Wilder and Povetkin even in the top 15 in the WBA rankings? Are the abc's just that corrupt and/or irrelevant?

So, Ortiz would beat prime Holmes and Holyfield but Wilder would have a good shot at beating him? :brick:

If he was better than everyone else he wouldn't have needed to dope. No credit for dopers. Ever.

So beating Thompson bumped him over wilder? Lol, very solid fighter. Yet to see him against a puncher. I'm sticking with Joshua for now.

Let me preface my remarks by saying Ortiz certainly looks like the most dangerous AND skilled guy in division.

But there are flaws.

I also dunno if he beats a prime Larry or Evander.

Holmes showed little problem in his prime or slightly past it dealing with bigger men-
IMO , he'd paper cut then stop Ortiz just like he did other physically bigger punchers
like Cooney and Boneclutcher. As for Real Deal, he handled a slightly past prime Tyson
that was still a lot nastier than anything I've seen out of Ortiz yet. But, it is all debateable.

Ortiz is legit.

I do see issues tho.

Most apparent (but certainly not the only thing) was his tendency to allow Thompson to
lay and even rest that lead hand out there in his face then punch off of it. For some reason,
Tony the Tiger was able to measure then fire crosses pretty regularly.

Against an average puncher like Thompson, Ortiz got away with it.
Against Joshua, Wilder, Klitschko, and even Fury, he will take a nap.

It remains to be seen whether it was something Luis knew he could get away with
or it was something he simply could not stop. If it is the former, fine for Ortiz.

If it is the latter, it is a huge problem.

Both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua beat HBO hype job Luis Ortiz.

(I'm not British, I can see they are better than fat Ortiz)

Let's see it.

Thompson is completely past it and had no trigger to pull but Ortiz deserves credit for staying busy and he has a chance against any HW alive at the moment.

Even though I don't consider Ortiz as a hypejob after his win over Jennings, I do agree AJ and Tyson are better, for me Ortiz is equal to Klitschko atm.

I do shake my head regularly when reading this forum

What actually goes through some peoples heads?

He may be very good but beating Tony Thomson then being compared with arguably a top 5 ATG heavy is bordering on absolute lunacy.

Do you think Ortiz could have got up from that Shavers punch? No way has he a better chin than Holmes, or at least it has nit been proven yet. Holmes had one of the best chins in the business.

Holmes was an all time great. Ortiz has beaten who? Thompson and Jennings.

As hard as Ortiz punches, and we know it is very hard, I doubt it is anywhere near Gerry Cooney's power.

Larry handled that pretty easily.

Prime Holmes? Let's get him past the old man that schooled Mercer first.

Even well past his prime, Holmes was a problem even for very good heavies.

Ortiz has Power and Strength on Holmes. After that you lost me. Footwork equal? Really?

I don't know about Ortiz being the best heavyweight right now but he's certainly top 5 in my opinion. I am just happy it's an exciting time for the heavyweight division with hopefully lots of anticipated match ups made.
