Has anyone else heard rumours BT Sport are filming a series of 8 man prize fighter type tournaments involving best semi-pros in country? Style of show is mixed between 24/7 and prizefighter - plenty of get to know your man with a tournament format show.

Octagon roped ring
1 x 6 min round
2 clocks above ring, 1 with the time ticking down, one with prize money ticking down - so say first round is worth 2,000 quid it may reduce by £10 a second or whatever
Buzzer will sound randomly during 6min round to signal 30 seconds of double money for a KO
Anyone without BBBOC liscence can apply - first one had (allegedly) 4 boxers, 2 mma lads and 2 former world kick boxing champs
Apparently all first round contestants got £2,500, the countdown clock in the final started on £20,000?!?!

It isn't boxing it is Frankenboxing and I agree with Scott they should have invested their time and money showing some small hall shows; you would not believe the some of the contests people do not get to see. I think the boxers would go all out as well knowing they were on live TV.

I don't know what frankenboxing is but if there is a ring, referee, gloves, rounds, timekeeper and judges and of course two boxers fighting to the Marquis of Queensbury rules, then it is boxing.

Since the BBB of C doesn't seem to concerned about one sided bouts going on under their jurisdiction - I am not too
bothered about people setting up in competition if they guarantee competitive fights.

Really? You might not be conversant with those rules: If not, here they are:


The Queensbury Rules

1. To be a fair stand-up boxing match in a twenty-four foot ring or as near that size as practicable.

2. No wrestling or hugging allowed.

3. The rounds to be of three minutes duration and one minute time between rounds.

4. If either man fall through weakness or otherwise, he must get up unassisted, ten seconds be allowed to do so, the other man meanwhile to return to his corner; and when the fallen man is on his legs the round is to be resumed and continued until the three minutes have expired. If one man fails to come to the scratch in the ten seconds allowed, it shall be in the power of the referee to give his awart in favour of the other man.

5. A man hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground, shall be considered down.

6. No seconds or any other person to be allowed in the ring during the rounds.

7. Should the contest be stopped by any unavoidable interference, the referee (is) to name the time and place as soon as possible for finishing the contest, to that the match can be won and lost, unless the backers of the men agree to draw the stakes.

8. The gloves to be fair-sized boxing gloves of the best quality and new.

9. Should a glove burst, or come off, it must be replaced to the referee's satisfaction.

10. A man on one knee is considered down, and if struck is entitled to the stakes.

11. No shoes or boots with springs allowed.

12. The contest in all other respects to be governed by the revised rules of the London Prize Ring.

The only thing that seems to disrepute the rules is the length of round and I didn't know this until now but any fight
that was 2 minutes in duration was breaking the Queensbury Rules! Let's ban them too!

As long as the chicken is entertaining and proper safety precautions and care are in order then it might be
better than some of the dross served up by some BBB of C licensees.

I agree, I'd rather BT Sport invested in small hall shows. Get some decent scraps in from people on their way up. I guess they think the gameshow format will get interest from the masses.

No snooker, the pub in Croydon doesn't have BT Sports and he has to be home for his tea. Plus he'd probably fall asleep after a few Fosters.

Theres no such thing as a 'semi-pro' boxer

I think you'll find 90% of boxers are semi pro technically as the majority have a full time job as well as boxing because they dont earn enough to live off boxing.

I think it's an interesting concept, all the best to those involved.

Fighting for 6 minutes and having a buzzer sound for 30 seconds for double money KOs doesn't sound like boxing to me, more like a circus act.

I'd go as far as to say that the Euro 'Biggers Better' tournament that is shown on Eurosport is more like boxing and some of the 'fights' on that are a total shambles.

Disappointing really that BT are investing in trash like this, they've probably got the best team in Woodhall and Dempsey for no nonsense boxing analysis. I wonder what Richie will make of it.

BT are showing a fair amount of the British Lionhearts in the WSB so for that they have my thanks, although tonight they are on ESPN at 7.30pm v the Ukraine

As for the person who said "theres no such thing as a semi pro boxer - most boxers fighting under BBBOC are actually semi pro. All who fight on the other circuits such as BBU and whatever are semi-pro. Just like you get proffessional footballers - thats their proffession, and semi-pro footballers, day job and also get paid for playing as a side line.

Knew it wouldnt be for everyone. Personally I'll watch it when its on, has to be more entertaining that some of the pro shows we've had where its basically a show of 8 home fighters Vs latvian roadsweepers then a title fight headlining whereby some african comes over that nobody has heard of.

As for buzzer thing and the timer being like a circus act - i think its to stimulate those involved wanting a KO.

No, because its not their proffession.

I get paid £20 a game playing football but ive never called myself a proffessional footballer.

WSB is free online, stream was a bit patchy last week, but it should get better as time goes on.
