Regarding the Gorilla Jones query in Odd and Ends. In the Jones record in the 1981 RRB there is a Gorilla Jones - Jim Williams bout (7/18/1928, Akron, OH) but not the Sgt Sammy Baker one the day before. It lists a Sammy Baker fight on 8/29/1928 at Cleveland (ND 10).
However I have a photocopy of the Baker record from another RRB (1971, I think) and this does list a bout against Gorilla Jones (7/17/1928 at Cleveland - Baker W10) but not one for 8/29/1928. Difficult to know what to do.
I will check the New York Times for all three dates later this week. Colin.
