I think the difference here is that I actually saw the fight. And there’s nothing wrong with my memory.
overhand_right wrote:Bugner himself is quoted as saying 'that was the only fight where i asked myself 'why am i doing this?' '.
That could be an accurate quote because Lyle took Joe to deep waters in the second half of the fight. However, since I’ve actually seen the fight, I know that Joe pretty much swept all of the early rounds.

I’ve actually seen those fights too.
I think we've all seen the fights mate.
Queue hilarious comeback 'oh, you haven't!!'
I wouldn't be talking about the fights if i hadn't seen em.
Lyle was, "never going to come out on top against Ali or Foreman."
LOL. It'd be less embarressing at this point if you simply conceded having never seen them, at least that way, no one could accuse you of not knowing what you're looking at.
Either that, or you own one hell of a crystal ball, pahi 8)
I've had them both on tapes for years. Ken Nortons on Foreman/Lyle. Rd 2 was ended early. Ali/Lyle you'll note i was able to refer to comments Cossell made on the broadcast about Ali's estimated time of win. Okay?
As for Lyle winning....
Ali stopped him in 11 rds. It was a 15 rd fight.
Yeah Lyle had Foreman down-- but Foreman got up and took him out, rd 5 of a 12 rd fight.
I've got all the tapes of all these old classic 70s fights.
Question-- does anyone think Lyle would of won a rematch with either man? No. Therfore hes never gonna beat either of them.

I'd give Lyle a very fair chance at winning an Ali rematch late 1975-early 1976.
And apparently you haven't seen Lyle-Bugner as NO-ONE with two eyes would say Lyle "shut him out" or that it wasn't a competetive fight.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh i've had Lyle Bugner on tape for fookin years.
Since when did scorecards mean much anyway? Lyle was all over him all night. Bugner laying against the ropes with his gloves cupped round his head. Biiig ugly red welts on the sides of his body.

My mistake --- you do own the fights --- you just don't know what you're looking at.
