Erik Morales

1) Wayne Mcullough, 1999 - Probably boxing's most underrated battle, and the one that made me the Morales fan I am today. Absolute beauty of a fight, both men put on a superb showcase of skill and tenacity.

2) Junior Jones, 1998 - Electrifying fight while it lasted, Jones had just beaten the shit out of Barrera twice, and had the gall to step into Erik's hometown to do likewise. Erik, however, had other plans...

3) Barrera, 2002 - this was Erik near his '03 peak, and it showed in spades. Produced the only true knockdown of their trilogy when he punched MAB to the canvas with a ripping body shot in the 7th, and the irony is, MAB was known for his ferocious attacks downstairs;

4) Pacquaio, 2005 - the last hurrah of Erik the Great before his decline, and as such will forever tarnish Pacs subsequent KO's.

5) Chi, 2001 - forced Erik to take a 12 month sabbatical, like Morales the tall Korean had no factory-installed reverse gear. Pure bloodshed for 12 rounds, as Boxing should be.

Some good humor on this page.

Sammy Scaff as Tyson's second greatest performance?

Cleveland Williams as Ali's best?

Junior Jones & wayne McCullough above Barrera & Pacuaio for Morales?

God bless the Internet.

Trust me that's the tip of a sizable iceberg with that particular poster.

Man I'd almost forgot about RazorKO too. There's been nobody to explain that Razor Ruddock only got KTFO by Lewis because the boos from the crowd hurt his feelings and that Gerrie Coetzee was a top ten heavyweight of all time

I thought the stoppage was premature and the ref should of given Shavers a chance to continue, Quarry got him with a few left hooks but missed the majority of his punches and only because Quarry was swarming Shavers throwing and missing....Earnie had to go down just to get Quarry of his back. When Earnie was knocked down it wasnt because of the impact of Quarry's punches. If Shavers had a chance to recover he might of won this fight.
Interesting account. Thats the first time I have heard any information on that fight and what happened as I always had wondered about it. In a case like that where a fighter gets a raw deal usually he wants to have a rematch as soon as possible. I would be curious as to why one never took place.

Shavers came out swingin in the beginning and hit quarry at least a couple times but then he just began to cover up and was rocked numerous times by Quarr-Bear
in the post fight interview Shavers had no excuses and said he was hurt from a good punch and that jerry was a great fighter
i dont believe earnie would have ever won that fight
There's a Jerry Quarry documentary video I saw on youtube hosted by Bert Sugar. Shavers is on there talking about the fight; basially acknowledging the lost and making no excuses. He cited Quarry's unexpected (to him) ability to take his punch as the thing that impressed him the most.

Ezz carefully avoided every fight with Moore that he certainly would have lost, and puzzlingly ONLY accepted the fights that he won.

Had there been ten fights between these two, Moore would have been a lock on 6....(nearly 7) of them. But Ezz only accepted the 4 that he was certain to win.

The most documented case of a running in professional boxing history.

However, the doubters (e.g. Jaclem) will never face this fact, and will continue to make ballyhoo of Ezz's exploited "perfect" streak over Moore.

The Truth is out there.

It probably was his best 'performance' although obviously not his best win, what do you think was better?

A few of my opinions regarding fighter's best wins ( though my lists are in no particular order )

LARRY HOLMES' BEST:

1 - Roy Williams
- Holme's first big test against a notorious rugged, hard hitting tough guy that few heavies of
day wanted to tangle with. The future Champ broke his hand & earned a W10 in a gut
check.

2 - Shavers I
A brilliant boxing clinic by Holmes in a bout many critics expected him to go out on his back.

3 - Ken Norton
Another massive gut check in an all time great 15 round classic.

4 - Gerry Cooney
Larry completely dismantled his huge, unbeaten challenger inside 13 rounds in probably
the biggest fight of his life.

5 - Ray Mercer
Following his KO by 4 loss to Mike Tyson, most considered him shot & an easy mark for the
unbeaten, hard hitting Olympic Gold medalist. But, Holmes put on yet another boxing clinic
& won a clear 12 round nod.

LEON SPINKS BEST:

1 - Scott LeDoux D10
The small, sub-200 lb, novice pro engaged in a rough & rugged 10 round slugfest with the
tough as nails, seasoned, hulking LeDoux who was a bigger puncher & had better skills
most gave him credit for. Spinks was extended the full 10 rounds in a hotly contested, fast
paced war in which he displayed the same sort of volume punching, stamina & heart that
helped him beat Ali just a fight or so later.

2 - Muhammad Ali W15
An epic feat in only his 8th pro fight.
Nuff said.

3 - Bernardo Mercado KO9
After being outboxed by Ali in their rematch & thoroughly embarassed by Gerrie Coetzee in
a single round, followed by a string of so so performances in going 3 - 0 -1 afterward, Leon
wasn't expected to last long vs the massive punching, big Columbian who was coming off a
KO over top contender Earnie Shavers. But, he rose to the occasion & battered Mercado over
8 1/2 one-sided rounds.
