Murray - Meager

With all this talk of Murray-Khan I think people seem to think the Meager fight is a formality but I don't see it as such. I see it as a 60:40 sort of fight - Meager is tough as old boots and Murray has looked poor of late. Of course if Murray can perform like he did earlier in his career I think he will take care of Meager but right now I only make him a slight favourite. It would be a terrific performance from Murray if he could stop Meager. Thoughts?

It should be a great fight to watch. Looking forward to this one as much as Francis v Oakey. Murray has some class and we should see it on Friday.

As to Khan, he's a busy boy. Maybe fighting Murray in Sept, challenging for the WBO super featherweight after that as well (more likely the WBO 130 champ will move up to make Khan look good, or even the Cook-Arthur loser).

Shame if the winner is not allowed an optional - Khan against either fighter would be a cracker while it lasted for the British and Commonwealth belts in September at the MEN. I'd favour Khan to beat both but Meager and Murray both like to pressure opponents which tends to cause Khan problems ala Gomez.

I thought Dave Stewart was calling it a day. Andrew Murray or Pete McDonagh must be up there as well, the winner of their fight on Saturday could be up the ratings.

Interesting read by Dooley - nice touch by Gallagher to say he wouldn't mind seeing Meager win - thats good sportmanship - something thats been lacking in recent fights though it could be argued the needle helps to shift tickets.

I think Murray is one of these fighters who performs better when he thinks he has a real challenge in front of him. The best I have seen him was when he fought for the vacant English title against Dean Hickman, after a slow start he came alive in the fourth round when he took Hickman out with a lovely mix of body and head shots. Other times he has looked flat and frustrated. His weakness is his lack of head movement and he does mark up very easily (I saw him after the Hickman fight and he had bruising around both eyes). He also seems a bit of a slow starter.

But like I said I think he will rise to the occasion on Friday night and we should see the best of him. I don't think it will be an easy night for John, but I fancy him to win by late stoppage in about ten rounds.

I would love to see Murray (providing he wins of course) face Khan on September 6, but these sort of obvious match-ups never seem to happen do they? Murray lack of head movement may prove costly against an accurate, fast puncher like Khan, but John is bigger, stronger and fresher then Gomez. If he can survive the early onslaught, he could upset Khan.

Lightweight's a great division in Britain, and I can't wait for Murray-Meager. Have a feeling that Murray's really going to deliver. Very few British fighters are that at home fighting on the inside.

meager is gonna take murray to a place he has only been once before (wbc youth championship fight) and murray was in big trouble a few times during this fight. i have never seen meager in a boring fight, he loves a rumble and i can honestly see him beating murray who i feel is over rated, meager is a heavy handed sod who will not run, he digs well to the body and rob mccrack will have him very fired up for this one, if meager beats murray then he could be onto a decent payday in the near future, this is a big incentive to meager.

Meager has definitely been overlooked in the build up to the fight.

Whilst I think Meager may have been overlooked in the preparations, I think its very interesting Hennessy is prepared to pitch one of his original team when he started as a professional boxing promoter with one of his so called potential fights.

Murray has to look good in this fight, Meager does not have a massive punch, whilst he is a very good boxer indeed on the domestic front if Murray is going anywhere at all he has to dispose of Meager with relative ease, that is not dosrespecting Meager its just people are talking about Murray going beyond the domestic scene which is why he must deal with Meager.

Its an interesting fight, Murray should finish this in the middle to later rounds.

I don't see Murray as a hot prospect at all, that's probably why have this a close, tough fight.

Meager-Murray is a real pick 'em fight for me.

Murray has had all the recent hype from his camp, but I still think is yet to be tested properly.

Meager is a former British champ who was promoted heavily when turning over, but ultimately came up a little bit short.

Even so, he is the best Murray has fought.

Both have a similar style as well. They will go at it and neither will want to be the first to take a backward step.

We haven't seen Murray 'broken' yet, as Meager was against Thaxton. Murray has always bit down when he had to, like against Mendoza, which suggests there may be something extra there.

But is Meager the one to push him over the edge?

In a 50-50 fight, I'd say a 5/2 bet will make finding out even more interesting!

I think Meager can be considered as a good gatekeeper for this class, Murray's performance tonight should tell us a lot about him.
I doubt Meager would be capable of extending Khan past halfway, in fact I imagine Khan would be heavily criticise fo facing him
