Apparently Burns is fighting live on Skysports on Friday night for the Commonwealth Super-Featherweight belt against Osumana Akaba, the guy who lost to Truscott but beat Munyai.
He figures to be too small for Burns in my book, even though he is a tough son of a gun.
Burns has flattered to deceive for me, always thought he was better than he has produced, be pleased to see him get a belt, although he will have to work hard as the Ghanaian is on a crest at the moment having beaten Munyai.
Could be a decent little scrap, much better than having a Friday without a fight since Dean/Marsh was called off.

Rediculous how all of a sudden the Commonwealth Title becomes vacant and the sanction a featherweight and a guy who has lost everytime he has stepped up.

Braveheart Ricky Burns takes on Ghanaian hard man Osumanu Akaba for the vacant Commonwealth super-featherweight title this Friday at York Hall. The title was made vacant by recently crowned British super-featherweight champ Kevin Mitchell.
Burns is a tall, neat-boxing exponent from Coatbridge near Glasgow who went 12 rounds for this title in 2006 against fellow Scot Alex Arthur (Arthur's old British and European super-featherweight titles were also at stake) and emerged with a lot of credit in defeat. He looked like a 'live' challenger to Carl Johanneson a year later in Leeds in another British title crack at the weight, but Johanneson dropped him three times and romped to a unanimous decision. It was back to the drawing board for tricky Ricky, and he's rebuilt slowly if efficiently since, with eight straight wins over mediocre opposition.
At 25 this third title chance looks quite timely.
Akaba is one of those Bukom boys from Accra who we know all about and who won't roll over. Four months ago, the solid-looking southpaw made his way to downtown Middlesbrough and gave unbeaten local man Paul Truscott a 12-round war for the vacant Commonwealth title - at featherweight - before dropping the points. Akaba struggled to make the weight for that one and eventually did so, naked, five minutes before the scales closed, but he is still a natural featherweight. Since then, in downtown Dagenham, the 28-year-old Akaba has snapped the unbeaten record of dangerous South African Tshifhiwa Munyai, who we know for his bantamweight exploits here.

Still, this one is a lock to go the full 12 rounds. Burns likes to think he can whack but won't budge tough Akaba and might have to ride out a few rough moments before making his way to a decision.
