Curtis Woodhouse a talented footballer,a million pound footballer, made it in "news speak terms"
In the eyes of the sheep Curtis Woodhouse "had made it"
Curtis Woodhouse threw it all away the life style of a million pound footballer that is.........
ie.......... a fat contract of pro football (250 K a year) to be a pro boxer earning chicken feed,we are talking about a million pound footballer in the modern Era of bling, bling,Curtis Woodhouse rejected the footballer lifestyle and decided to become a Pro boxer,is this insanity ?
Curtis Woodhouse quote below....................................................
If you spend four days a week fighting the last thing you will want to do in your spare time is go out and have a fight," said Woodhouse. "If I was stopped in the road by God and he granted me one wish to do anything I wanted, I'd tell him: 'I'm all right because I'm living my dream already by boxing, I couldn't wish for anything else.' I've got a wife, two healthy and beautiful kids and I'm doing something I love

I've got a lot of respect for him. He's shown genuine dedication and no matter what happens from here he will already have proved a lot of people wrong. Ironically some other pros could take a leaf out his book in terms of commitment and love of the game.
Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
I completely agree deserter. In boxing terms he's a class act. I hope he gets the British title.

While some fans may struggle to believe it, Woodhouse says being paid to play football started to get on his nerves.
"Everyone loves football, but I didn't. It felt like a job," said Woodhouse
"I felt empty playing, it got me angry"

Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
The improvement from his first pro fight to his eighth fight has been immense. He looked like a footballer trying to box on his debut. Now he looks like a proper fighter. If someone told you Woodhouse came from a background consisting of 50 amateur bouts, you'd probably believe them. Whether he does anything or not (as far as British titles go), he's become a fully fledged fighter and not a gimmick. That deserves massive credit.

Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
Dave Coldwell, Woodhouse’s coach, has now backed the former England Under-21 International to complete an incredible journey from pro footballer to British boxing champion.
Coldwell said: “There is a lot of pressure on Curtis, being an ex-footballer,i must admit when he first came to me I thought, who is this idiot ? But he’s been nothing of the sort and is one the best lads I’ve ever worked with.”

Curtis Woodhouse
"What people need to understand is my main ambition in signing as a footballer was to keep out of trouble. It was never about money; if it was, I'd carry on, because I've got two young children and though I'm not poor, I'm a long way from being a millionaire. In fact had it not been for my family, I'd have made the switch years ago"

Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
i think he can do it, he started late in the day as a pro, but i think he could make it to british title level, i like his work to the body, very effective.
Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
I agree Rhino - I think he is going to make British level.... whiskers of course need testing its very early. My main concern is that he doesn't seem to be able to let the football go... he knows that he cannot combine the two to be as successful in boxing, and he is fortunate (I would think) enough not to need a job to stay afloat... but still he keeps playing.
2 years ago - he said he was retiring.

dave caldwell told me he is worried sick each tiem woodhouse plays football. rushden have given woodhouse the captains armband, seemingly as a carrot to carry on, but im led to believe that curtis has promised that this is his last year in football.stujones wrote:I agree Rhino - I think he is going to make British level.... whiskers of course need testing its very early. Curtis Woodhouse used to spar in the boxing gym after football training without his manager's knowledge, saying "A few times at Sheffield United, Neil Warnock would drag me in and say ‘I hear you’ve been boxing’. I’d be standing there with a big black eye and a fat lip and deny it"

Has this thread, and your multiple posts in it, been in any way prompted by this quote, classboxer: "If I was stopped in the road by God and he granted me one wish to do anything I wanted, I'd tell him: 'I'm all right because I'm living my dream already by boxing, I couldn't wish for anything else." ?
Fair play to Woodhouse. He was seen as a novelty, but he's obviously worked his arse off, and clearly enjoys boxing. I agree with Rhino and Stu, I don't think British title level is beyond him.

Football wise, he's on a pay as you play deal at the moment.
This is his last season.
He struggles with the footie knocks then following up with the boxing training.
The travelling doesn't help either, with overnight stays for midweek games.
I recall an arduous trek to Barrow only a couple of weeks ago.
Always helps when he gets a ban of course !
He has what most successful sportsmen have - an unwitting desire to achieve his goals (excuse the pun) and get over or around any obstacles in his way.
He's never said anything about going beyond British level.
Many thought that a pipedream early on - but now ?
A great kid to have around the gym, I hope he fulfils his dream.

Good luck to him I say. Giving up that much money for boxing shows that he must really love the sport, and for that he deserves props.

Re: Curtis Woodhouse( boxer) million pound footballer
When he turned pro I was very scathing about him, thought it was a publicity stunt making a mockery of our game.
I thought how can someone of his age and experience become a pro boxer, I would have been happy to see him whacked out.
And on top of this there was talk about him becoming a champion!!
He intially was matched against the weakest opposition possible, where he won clearly, but decent prospects would have got the job done in a hurry.
Fair enough though, he'd had a couple of wins, but then he started to improve further and at a rate of knots, suddenly he was looking like a genuine prospect.
It would still be a big job to get a domestic title, but at his rate of improvement, who knows. I had already been proved badly wrong about his quality.
To be fair if he had to finish now he as still achieved hugely.
Good luck to the fella, I know hope he proves me wrong further
