I don't think that's true. I'll see if I can find the pts breakdown by tournament.Jamel wrote:Oh I know that the winner isnt the only one that gets points, I know that they really start from the quarter finals and on up to the finals is where they start to rank boxers but I was told after they rank those guys/girls from the quarters up they start ranking guys who fought the guy/girl who wins the entire thing, but I dont know if its true or not I was always told you had to make it to the quarter finals to get in the top 10

Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Please do find out because believe me I heard some crazy things from time to time, I even heard crazy stories from officals who actually go to most or all of the national tournaments, a few saying...
First they rank the 2 finalist
then the semi finalist
then the quarter finalist
which would rank guys from 1 to 6 in the top 10
then... they break down the opponents in the winners brackets from the beginning of the tournament and I've heard this story more then once...
Its just to much confusion really

Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Let me ask you this, are you talking about the rankings of the tournament itself? Like what they used to do for the Silver Gloves? I'm referring to USA Boxing's Men's and Women's Rankings. By your description, I'm pretty sure that you are talking about the tournament ranking. I guess that can be done any way the organizer's want, but what you describe sounds right. From looking at our boxer's bracket that sounds like how they did these: http://www.silvergloves.com/2005/Index.htmJamel wrote:Please do find out because believe me I heard some crazy things from time to time, I even heard crazy stories from officals who actually go to most or all of the national tournaments, a few saying...

The pts system for ranking that I was talking about was for the USA Boxing Rankings.

Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Yea that was I was really talking about, I mean I'm still kind of new to alll this but I try to learn as much as possible because its good to know but what I was talking about really is how they break down ALL the national tournaments these days, from PALs, to National Golden Gloves, to the U.S. Nationals, but I never knew thats how they broke down the Silver Gloves like that, see I just learned something new right there but on top of the subject I was told if a boxer has rank already that he earned from a previous national tournament that if he just makes it to the quarters in the NEXT national tournament of that year that he would keep his or her rank or even move up in rank a little more if he made it to the quarter finals at LEAST.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:Let me ask you this, are you talking about the rankings of the tournament itself? 2008 Silvers was the first year that they didn't post the list with all the division final rankings. Not sure why though.Jamel wrote:Yea that was I was really talking about, I mean I'm still kind of new to alll this but I try to learn as much as possible because its good to know but what I was talking about really is how they break down ALL the national tournaments these days, from PALs, to National Golden Gloves, to the U.S. Nationals, but I never knew thats how they broke down the Silver Gloves like that, see I just learned something new right there

Other National Tournaments, Nat’l GG & Nat’l PAL: 100 pts – 1st, 75 pts – 2nd, 50 pts – 3rd & 4th, 25 pts – 5th – 8th.
International competition (duals): 30 pts for entering and 30 pts for each victory on top of initial 30 pts for entering the competition
International tournaments: Points to be determined by USA Boxing
Re: USA Boxing Rankings
what would be the first national tournament of the year then? I was always told the Nationals is last and the PALs starts everything all over so would the rankings start all over after the nationals and the PALs would create new rankings?

Good question, the rankings from USAB are always updated quarterly.Jamel wrote:what would be the first national tournament of the year then? Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Especially since the Olympics is over I was told the PALs starts EVERYTHING over and also since most of the boxers who either did or didnt make the olympic team decide to go pro that really makes alot of openings in terms of ranking again.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:Good question, the rankings from USAB are always updated quarterly.Jamel wrote:what would be the first national tournament of the year then? Jamel - Ron brought out the All Marine team to the Westminster shows. 8)
Glad to hear Ramirez is okay - I talked to Anthony Day, the Camp Pendleton coach, today and he said that Edgar had some kind of broken bones in his face? What exactly did happen to him, since I've now heard several stories? Thanks for the info.
Ranking usually starts from the winner, to the runner up, to the semifinalist who lost to the winner, etc. Only ten are ranked - so, yes, you can get ranked by losing to the champion.I dont know if its true or not but I heard that you can get ranked just from losing to the guy who wins the whole tournament.

Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Hmmm - only if USAB decides that's true. If so, it will be the first time since the PAL has been included in the rankings.Especially since the Olympics is over I was told the PALs starts EVERYTHING over and also since most of the boxers who either did or didnt make the olympic team decide to go pro that really makes alot of openings in terms of ranking again.
Thanks for the info on Ramirez. Please tell him we all said hello and get well!

I'll let him know, and I thought the PAL was always included in the rankings since it was a national tournament.boxmel wrote:Hmmm - only if USAB decides that's true. Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Mel, the PAL was on of the tournaments that was listed a few years back on the Quarterly Rankings pages of the USAB website, it was also one of the tournaments that resulted in pts for not on 1st place, but also for runner-ups. I cannot find a cached version of that page, but Dennis posted the breakdown and it looks like the same info. . .boxmel wrote:Hmmm - only if USAB decides that's true. Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Sorry - I wasn't clear. The rankings have always started with the U.S. Championships, with the PAL being the third ranking tournament of the year (Golden Gloves is the other). If USAB decided to start the rankings with the PAL this year, they have made a change. We'll just have to wait and see.I thought the PAL was always included in the rankings since it was a national tournament.
Arghhh - I hate it when I'm confusing everyone! The three ranking tournaments: U.S. Championships, Golden Gloves and PAL all gave the same amount of points: 100 to the winner, 90 to the runner up, and on down in increments of 10.
Isn't it past your bedtime on the east coast?

Duran told me that they told him that Edgar's orbital floor was fractured and he had a concussion. They were both really worried about him as well.
Who were you in Iraq with? Welcome home, and Semper Fi.

Re: USA Boxing Rankings
Mel - the ranking points were changed to emphasize the U.S. Championships. They get more points than the other two - GG and PAL. It changed for 2007.boxmel wrote:Sorry - I wasn't clear.
