Daniel Teasdale has been the victim of death threats. Teasdale was told in a terrifying mobile phone call that if he climbed into the ring at Barnsley Metrodome he would be gunned down.
Under police supervision, 21-year-old Teasdale boxed on, but is still carrying a portable panic button that gives instant access to officers.
Daniel, who lives in Rotherham and trains at Sheffield, said: "I was chilling out at a friend's house.
"My mobile went and a really shady voice said: 'Your next fight, listen to what I'm saying, you're going to get shot.'"
Teasdale said: "I laughed but he repeated it."
The fighter and his managers, Dave Marshall and Glyn Rhodes, reported the incident to police after Marshall himself received a call.
"I was told to watch my back at Daniel's next fight," Marshall said.
Police checked both mobiles and allowed the fight against Ojay Abrahams from Watford to go ahead last week.
"CID officers and security staff met me in the car park and escorted me all night right into the ring," said Teasdale.
"They pulled all the stops out. There were 35 people guarding me, some armed and the bomb squad was on standby.
"After the fight I wanted to celebrate my win but we were ushered out of the venue, and with three police cars behind our car and two in front, we were escorted to Barnsley police station.
"They told me they'd arranged a 24-hour watch at my house. I was given a device the size of a mobile phone that gives instant contact to police."
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswomen said: "Threats were received in advance of the fight last week and an operation was put in place involving an armed contingency. The threats are still being investigated."
Police were not in the crowd, but security was supported by a back-up service on call.
Sheffield's Dave Coldwell, co-promoter of the boxing show, said: "We knew what was going on but we didn't go public with it. All proper precautions were taken.
"It's pretty certain that it was all designed to unsettled Daniel but he is made of sterner stuff than that."
Coldwell was co-promoting the show with allegedly.
Teasdale's short professional ring career has been blighted. His debut at Magna Centre, Rotherham, in November was halted inside three minutes by a riot in the crowd.
The former amateur champion, who has boxed for England, today vowed to fight on.
"If anything all this has made me more determined to succeed," he said.
The threats came after kidnap fears for Sheffield's WBO cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson.
In August it was revealed Nelson, his wife and children had been under 24-hour police surveillance.

Other news: Roddy Doran was given a six month ban by the Board yesterday after testing positive for Clenbuterol. He can return to action in September.

What is it with Teasdale? Trouble seems to follow him round like a black dog. I think there was a full scale riot at his debut as well?
Has he got some sort of gang related background that's come back to haunt him, or is he just unlucky?
I'm sure the police will tell him, that when someone bothers to phone you up and say they're gonna shoot you, chances are good they wont. Can't have helped much though.
