It's not that big a deal. If Audley Harrison had beaten Cisse Salif on the way up, the Brits would have said "so what?".

Come on Oli - you aren't comparing a chap who had 3 amateur fights before turning pro against a man who won an ABA title and an olympic gold medal against a tough field?

Tuopo beating Salif is a damn good win in my opinion!

i agree. it is a good effort. sure he could have faced someone with a better record , but as it stands he beat the guy and thats all u can ask.

some people are never happy regardless.

it would be a waste of a singular, half-hearted punch.

thats actually quiet a good win for tupou imo
i've only seen a couple of fights of hes before he left, while impressive phisically he must of improved a fair bit skillwise, compared to how he was to beat someone like salif

hope he keeps stepping it up :box:

Jumping on me again because I offer a critical opinion of an Aussie boxer...

OK, let me clarify, yes it IS a good win and a solid learning experience, but it is not a "damn fine win", as Carlos put it. Salif is big and durable but firmly in journeyman mode these days. It's a good step for Tupou but hardly a breakthrough.

It is not 'one size fits all' Ollie - I look at the fact that Bowie is on a learning experience as a boxer and had 3 amateur bouts before turning pro - so beating Salif in his 16th fight is pretty impressive and in my opinion - a damn fine win! 8) Would it had been a damn fine win in Audley Harrisons 16th pro bout? Probably not...

Harrison beat Julius Francis in his 16th win - and we all predicted what the outcome would be - a 12 round borefest. :P

Yeah, fair enough. A good learning experience for the raw Tupou, and of course I haven't seen the fight, but I just suspect Salif doesn't come to win these days.

Admittedly the Harrison comparison was lazy, but I just remember his apprenticeship was actually pretty solid but no matter who he fought, he got panned. If he'd fought someone like Salif in his sixth fight, he would have criticised. He had some decent wins as a prospect.

As for people with limited amateur experience, look at Matt Skelton. OK, he fought in K1 before, but it depends how transferable you consider that experience to be.

Iron Rhino! I think you are a good fighter - tough, fit and very big. I saw your fights with Les Mason and Nathan Briggs (on the net)
what are your plans for the future?
