Fenech struggles for boxing focus

JEFF Fenech was today preparing for his first boxing promotion since his home was sprayed with bullets in an attack last month.

As he prepared for Friday's Fenech Fight Night at Homebush's Badgery Pavilion, the former triple world champion said he was still struggling to concentrate on boxing.

"I'm back in the gym and doing stuff with the boys, but it's still not easy," Fenech said today.

Seven shots were fired into his Sydney home on June 17, but no-one was home at the time.

He took his family to the Gold Coast for a few days, but then returned to Sydney.

While he considered moving his family overseas, Fenech said he wasn't looking at moving abroad on a long-term basis.

"I certainly wouldn't stay there forever, but if I had to do some work there while letting things settle down, that wouldn't be a problem for me," Fenech said.

"But I'm here, this is where I live."

Friday's promotion will feature world-ranked flyweight Hussein Hussein against Thai Sairung Sawanasil.

The two men will fight for the vacant World Boxing Organisation Asia Pacific flyweight title with the victor claiming the No.2 WBO ranking.

The card also features Daniel Dawson and Ian McLeod who will meet for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific junior middleweight title, and Naoufel Ben Rabah and Johnny Cotterill who clash for the junior welterweight title.

Fenech, who trains Vic Darchinyan, had been due to head overseas next Monday with Darchinyan who takes on International Boxing Federation flyweight champion Irene Pacheco for the world title in Hollywood.

But the fight, scheduled for August 7, will now take place on September 3 and will be broadcast by ESPN.

Already the holder of numerous accolades, Fenech will be inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in Los Angeles on October 16.

Meanwhile, Australia's super lightweight world champion Kostya Tszyu is still considering whether to appeal the WBA's decision to strip him off his Super title.

Kostya Tszyu's manager Matt Watt said the boxer was yet to launch his appeal and Tszyu's American-based promoter Vlad Warton was still in discussions with the WBA.

Nothing about whether the police have any leads in the shooting incident.

Re. Tszyu, he should get his ass in the ring and fight rather than whine about being stripped. If the injury was so severe that he's still not recovered, well, tough beans. If you can't fight, you don't stay champ.

Tszyu has a shoulder injury and will be back on 6 of november to start to clean out these bum who think they have a chance the great man,starting with that big mouth fool Mitchell and Fenech is all right,just a little worried for his family but at a show that he promoted last night he sounded up beat and excited about some of his fighter that have some big fights comming up in the next couple of months.

Zoo though has much has he's been my favorite fighter in and out the ring ever since i seen him at the sydney world championships I do think he's been out to long and may find it hard although if he drags Mitchell into a fight Mitchel will dog it again.when its in u to qiuit it don't take much to make u do it again it easieir every time
