Simon Templar versus Roy Thurgar the first time?

Post by boxeractor »

Dear Box Rec,

When I fought Roy Thurgar the first time when I was with Jack Rennie, I had just come out of the four round class and fought him over 10 rounds. I Knocked him down twice, was ahead on points and got stopped on a cut. I was not KO'd? The fight was stopped on a TKO! Have been to a couple of commercials for Bank West this year, one for a voiceover for the cartoon character 'Grass Head'. Am still waiting? Michael McDonald an author from Melbourne is writing a book on The Saint with my boxing and acting?

Your Attention,

John Bruce PLANT alias Simon Templar.

In those days there was no such thing as TKO in Australia, and to this day it still doesn't exist in NSW, but the Authority allows us to convert to TKO in the event it was a referee or doctor stoppage.
I've been through this with a few ol' pugs, including Matt Ropis.

Editor & former boxer Graham Dicker, had been incorrectly inserting modern decision in some cases.
Just so you don't lose sleep over it I'll change it, but I decline to insert it was a cut stoppage & were ahead on points as I've got no way of confirming it.

Cheers

P.S. Your DOB would be appreciated

Dear Anton,

Thankyou for changing the ko to a tko. Could you change the rest of my ko's to tko (except maybe Trevor Thornberry), as I was never counted out on the canvas so to speak? I got stopped on cut eyes and the like. Even with Trevor Thornberry I wasn't counted out, my cornerman Reg Layton threw the towel in after I had been knocked down about three times and out through the ropes? My brain was knocked out even though my body wasn't.

I'm afraid no can do. Do it for one, do it for all.
I know KO has got that sprawled out cold on the canvas stigma, but as I said in those days there was no TKO.
Sorry

I understand, however can you change my win with Hunter McHugh the first time we fought from a tko to a ko as he was on the canvas and counted out my referee Jimmy Carruthers. The second time we fought, I wasn't counted out, the referee stopped it!!

Dear Anton,
Thanks for changing my records. However the Hunter McHugh fight was a tko, not a ko in 5. It says tko when you just type Hunter McHugh boxer under google- hence:

'boxer: Simon Templar ... Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, L, TKO, 5, 10. ~ referee: Jimmy Carruthers ~. 1970-06-25, 171½, Hunter McHugh, 175¼, 2-2-2 ...'

My views for my 3 commercials on youtube have got 2726 hits. Just go to youtube and type in 'johnbruceplant' and click on the pictures.

The person writing a book about me is the journalist Michael McDonald. His email address is [email protected]

John
Albeit I'm a 61 year-old fart, I'm not a historian nor do I have a great interest in it. I focus on today, tomorrow & sometimes yesterday.
My only & totally reliable source in bi gone years is John Hogg, who is one year older, but has been keeping Oz records since he was in nappies - A case of interest that became a hobby & eventually an addiction, which still exists to this day
Last year he moved house & it took 1 hour to move furniture & almost 1 week to move boxing files
I only bother him, in the event loss/win error had been recorded.

There is nothing more I can nor have the time to do for you my friend
Cheers
