TV FANS' FURY OVER SETANTA BLUNDER Aug 30 2004

OLD Firm fans united to blast sports broadcasters Setanta yesterday after bungles made them miss the big match.
The Irish firm gave out the wrong subscription phone number just before the game.
And fans using the correct number claimed the hotline had been busy for days and they had been unable to order it.
Minutes before the match, Setanta displayed a message which told viewers wanting to see the match to call 08900 506970 - instead of 08700 506970.
Fans calling the advertised number heard the line go dead.
Rangers supporter Susan Forsyth, 45, said she then found three different numbers for Setanta, but could not get through on any of them.
Susan, from East Kilbride, said: 'We tried since 9.30am. I've been on the house phone, my son has been on the internet and my daughter has beenon the mobile.
'We've been given Dublin numbers and London numbers, but we can't get through.'
Celtic fan David Thomson, 46, had the right number.Hesaid:'I started trying about two weeks agobut it is constantly busy.
'I tried at one in the morning as I thought it wouldn't be busy and then I tried again at six. It's a disgrace.'
Rangers fan Peter Campbell, from Huntly, Aberdeenshire, was left bitterly disappointed.
He said: 'I decided in the morning to watch the game and was sure Setanta would be geared up for new customers.
'This must have cost Setanta a fortune in lost revenue.'
A spokeswoman for Setanta apologised for giving out the wrong number to fans.
She added: 'To be honest, by that time the line would have been engaged any way.
'We are not aware of any calls over the last few days that would have hindered people getting through.
'This morning, there were too many calls. We tried to publicise as widely as possible about phoning early because it is not pay-per-view, it is subscription.
'But we put out an excellent product today and we are very proud of it.'
Angry fans also reported blunders on Setanta's website.
Under Saturday's football results, they claimed Hibs had beaten Dundee 4-3 and Arsenal had beaten Norwich 3-1.
The actual scores were a 4-4 draw for Hibernian and a 4-1 victory for Arsenal.
Setanta have been dogged by a string of problems since they secured the rights to live SPL action.
Their four-year deal is worth £36million.
But they are reported to have had only 45,766 fans sign up for the £119 annual subscription - compared to a target of 100,000.
