Burns gets DQ'd early because he can reach no higher than Valuev's belt line.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
I don't see either fighter landing effectively to the head. If anything Burns would be able to land some body shots wheareas Tommy's extreme shortness would actually prove an extremely difficult target for a 7ft fighter. So I'll take Burns in an extremely boring fight.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Valuev would just be to big for him and Burns would lose a boring UD decision Burns wouldnt get close enough to him to hit him

I'll take Valuev by a close decision or late stoppage. Would be funny to watch at first, but then settle into a very awkward pattern and be quite boring.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
didnt burns have really long arms ??
Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
valuev u think would be able to keep him at distance & everytime burns got close valuev would tie him up and lean on him after a few rounds of having 320 or so pounds of weight being lent on his much smaller frame he would tire very quickly and eventually probably be knocked out more from exhaustion and size difference than valuev skills

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Burns awkward erratic style would give the iceberg-slow Valuev fits. I think he'd easily swat his way to a 20 rd decision, Valuev is simply awful.

Valuev would beat Burns easily.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Why? Because you're obsessed with his weight?
Valuev struggled with the awkwardness of John Ruiz, he looked hopeless faced with the movement of a 46 year old Evander Holyfield, Larry Donald confused him, beaten easily by Ruslan Chagaev... This incredible size of his failed to even squash Marcelo Dominguez, the 5'9'' cruiser who was old & obese, fully 40 lbs over his fighting weight.
But Tommy Burns is just going to fall over like a Clifford Etienne?
Burns would run circles around this lumbering freak show.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Why would Burns outwork and beat him ?
Im not a Valuev fan. He is big, well schooled
and is in good shape for some one his size,
NOW tell me what about Burns is so impressive?
I am not saying Valuev is the best HW ever not
even close, but how would Burns beat him like you
described...
Have you ever had to deal with a man that out weighs
you by a great deal, that is in shape and has some skills???
5'7 and 180lbs being besides the point...Burns style,
the crouch the swatting punches the open posture is
not something one can afford to do against any HW
with decent reach.
But I guess...Burns is better than anyone fighting
today, so the infernal wisdom goes on.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
I pick Burns because he has the qualities that Valuev struggles with - he is awkward, fast, feints a lot, moves around and could fight 20 rds staying away from opponents who were faster & smarter than the allegedly "well schooled" Valuev, like Philadelphia Jack O'Brian.
Valuev couldn't squash a washed up 5'9'' natural 190 lb Marcelo Dominguez, and he wasn't remotely able to impose an over 100 lb weight advantage when a 46 year old Holyfield, a 40 year old Larry Donald, and a rather slow paced Ruslan Chagaev showed him a bit of movement & Valuev failed to do any damage on these guys whatsoever. I believe Burns was a bit more lively than these guys & certainly didn't plod over his 20 rd fights.
But I guess Valuev would just beat any man who ever laced on gloves because no one can live with his size advantages (well except all the long in the tooth old men & fatties who already have done) 'so the infernal wisdom goes on'.

Uh huh. I agree totally.
Cool thanks.
Here is a good HL of the rumoured to be fake Obrien
fight...

Here he is in Oz on one of his great title defences against
Squires.

Good form and solid fundamentals.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Shall I post all the You Tube links that show a 46 year old Holyfield, a 40 year old Larry Donald and a now easily vanquished Ruslan Chagaev exposing Valuev's 'good form and solid fundamentals'?
Its 36 rds of Valuev plodding after slow moving men with a confused look in his eye, it does get a bit tedious.

If you actually watch the Dominguez fight whole one can see it was a very close fight. I haven't seen it in years but I remember scoring it a draw.overhand_right wrote:I pick Burns because he has the qualities that Valuev struggles with - he is awkward, fast, feints a lot, moves around and could fight 20 rds staying away from opponents who were faster & smarter than the allegedly "well schooled" Valuev, like Philadelphia Jack O'Brian.

Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Not remotely surprising. So a 5'9'' 190 lb fighters who's 35 yrs old and fighting a grotesque 40 lbs overweight can box to a draw with the Giant Joke, but a 5'7'' 180 lb Tommy Burns can't outwit this useless lump?
Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
Here is what the Mighty Univac says to this.
The classic Mutt and Jeff fight......sort of like the skunk and porcupine...one guy owns the inside the other does well from a distance.

Burns was a heavyweight fraud traveling with his personal secretary Billy Squires who would promptly impersonate being shot dead on cue in 3 title fights on 3 separate continents as they traveled round the world working their carny act for fresh yahoos.
Burns couldn't manage to get past Mike Schreck, Billy Moore, Billy Woods, Twin Sullivan and Hugo Kelly, and now you got him backstroking across the oceans of the world vanquishing your never forgotten adolescent pimples as he cures grown men of consumption, women of vapours, all while slaying Mighty Giants who wet your bed at night, eh?
Valuev won his bout against Dominguez, a major point beyond the grasp of the typical nattering ninnies cherry picking only bad points from his career. Moreover Burns was done as a fighter by age 27 whereas Big Niko is better than ever coming up to age 36 and has fighters ducking him where Burns had a posse of fighters scrambling to take him down.
Re: Who Would Win - Burns vs. Valuev
I just can't figure out how Tommy almost closes the giant's eye. Was he using a ladder?

Hahaha! BRR the clown strikes again. Fighters ducking Valuev?
BRR the liar never manages to miss an opportunity. Squires diving for Burns. Absolutely ZERO evidence, along with your other fantasy creations.

Why did Valuev not fight a ranked heavyweight for NINE years?Robinson wrote:How come Squires kept getting shots ?

Was everybody scared of him? Or did his team simply know how bad he was?

It's quite simple . . .they had a rematch, it was an exciting fight, so they fought again 2 months later to make more money.Robinson wrote:How come Squires kept getting shots ?
