Yes but at the time there were no coloured men for dempsey to fight at the time aside from firpo and harry Wills which nearly became a reality. besides Tunney was better than either of those two but Jack was past it.
sam langford?
what about harry greb?

willard had been out of action for years and won against an old jack johnson ib a fight to the finish
Miske had leukemia i think it was and dempsey fought him to give his good friend a decent pay day
dracey was a journeyman
gibbons was a light heavy moving up
firpo was dangerous but seen as beatable

3 year break

loses to tunny

in short dempsey fought 1 good fighter in his title time that he won - firpo and a 3 year break doesnt enhance your title reign any he may have held it nearly 7 years but the 3 year break puts that down to 4
oh but Joe Louis had a six year break from 42 and 48 but his title length is not cut down from 12 years is it?? maybe joe should just get a six year reign
he fought in 44
twice in 46
and once in 47

he also didnt defend 42-44 because of a legit reason - he was drafted into the army ever1 was conscrpited that was able bodied dempsey just had a break because he was making money acting

So what if dempsey wants to be an actor? Im fine with it. he did his best fighting on the way to the championship, he deserves a rest. Morris, miske, fulton etc..... Blasted them out.

Langford wasn't a contender anymore by the time Dempsey became champ.

Wills was the only black fighter during that period that was a viable top contender.

And Dempsey ducked him. Jack's title reign isn't in the top 500, much less the top 10.

- You've confused yourself ducking the brains department during your creation and instead getting your big headed Yakub noggin stuck in the Feets of Clay sandbox.

During Wills' reigns as Coloured Heavyweight Champion of the World, JJohnson, Jess Willard, and Jack Dempsey held the world titles. Only Dempsey signed to meet Wills, doing so TWICE, but unfortunately, no state would sanction the fight which collapsed the finances. Dempsey was still a poor man with no political pull, having left Rickard and Kearns, so instead made his fortune in Hollywood, not defending for 3 yrs.

Wills had some input in helping the finances by taking his $50 grand guarantee that Dempsey never recieved and fighting Firpo in a stinker of a match which did not garner any additional investers to grease the skids for the title challenge.

Wills had one more chance when Rickard proposed a 4 man title eliminator to lure Dempsey out of Hollywood. Tunney vs Wills winner against Gibbons vs TBA, but Wills wouldn't bite, so Tunney and Gibbons fought instead.

Clay for brains, eh? Explains everything.

Armstrong's title reign of 19 defenses at Welterweight within 2 years while also holding the Lightweight and Featherweight titles is absolutely mind-blowing. Unfathomable by today's standards.

im fine with it also but you cant claim he had a top 10 title reign then if you yourself has just said that he did his best figting before the title.

i did say i like dempsey just his title reign was rubbish

this is a thread about title reign so everything before he did before willard is irrelevant ive stated his fights for the title and they are not impressive you again brought up miske who had a terminal disease no wonder he was soundly beaten
