Most brutal KO

Post by gambler49 »

I go for Cooney vs Norton. Cooney was swinging them hooks wide and I felt the ref was scared 2 step in. Think sum brain damage must of occured to Norton.

Hearns knocking out Duran still makes my jaw drop.

I would put either Lewis/Rahman KO in there as well over Tszyu/Judah, which was more comical than brutal.

I don't think anyone cringed at the sight of Judah's electric boogaloo. That was comical, not brutal.

Voted for Tua - Ruiz with Cooney - Norton a close second.

Not on the list, but more brutal than any on it was Kenny Vice - Jim McDonnell at the Royal Albert Hall in 1991. Sickening KO.

hard to shake the memory of norton sitting on the ropes in the corner, his head getting bludgeoned from one side to the other, eyes vacant and mouth hung open. referee tony perez's name shows up alot in fight like this...resto-collins too when i come to think of it.

It's pretty difficult to pick just the one from that poll. There are some truly brutal slayings, there.

Of that group Jackson ko'ing Graham wins because Graham was out before he hit the ground.

For pure pleasure though I like the Hitman's obliteration of Roberto Duran. One of my favorite moments in boxing history.

My vote went to Hearns-Duran. It was quick and clean. That was some right hand Hearns threw.

Cooney-Norton reminds me of Johanssen-Machen. Both of those fights crossed the line and were sickening. Cooney should definitely have pulled up, and Ingo probably should have, too. The referee in the Johanssen fight was pitiful.

In terms of brutal, Griffith-Paret takes the cake.

Johannson-Machen and Griffith-Paret III are bordering on pornographic, but I suppose you're right nancey, as nauseating as those were. I went with Cooney-Norton on the list, but for one single punch I think it is hard to top Julian Jackson beheading Graham, as great as Hearns-Duran is. Duran wasn't down for close five minutes the way Graham was. Either way, getting hit flush by Hearns or Jackson is not good for your health.

Tim Witherspoon had a couple of brutal one-punch knockouts. I think the one against Eklund was pretty brutal - it looks like something in Eklund face has been dislocated: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqlFxKWZyyk

Mercer - Morrison was pretty brutal...it wasn't one or two punches that were gnarly, it was thirty something that absolutely destroyed Morrison.

None compare IMO.

Teddy Reid's fatal ko of Emiliano Valdez is one of the worst I ever saw. Valdez was out from a punch, and then got hit with 2 more ko punches.

Duran/Bizarro was wicked and Marciano/Walcott deserves a mention.

Have to vote for Tommy here.

there are enough one punch knockouts to fill a book; BUT the sort like norton-cooney, or mercer-morrison thankfully come around not that often, where one fight is helpless and the referee is asleep (perez).

Not in any order:

Jackson V Norris
Norris V Mugabi
Tua V Moore, Tua V Rick Hunnicut
Carter V Fernandez
Alex Garcia V Bernard Bull Benton
Virgil Akins V Tony DeMarco most brutal KO ever allowed by ref.
Marciano v Walcott I
Dempsey V Williard for a beating
Louis V Schmeling for worst beating

All refereed by Tony Perez.
Cooney V Norton-worst ref ever, many puches allowed way after it should have been stopped.
Mercer V Morrison-worst ref ever, same thing.
*******Tua V Ruiz-worst ref ever Extremely Brutal finishing shot never should have been allowed
(Ali V Wepner-most fouls tons of rabbit punches by Wepner allowed by ref)

I voted for Jackson vs Graham because I've seen it numerous times and it never loses it's brutality, Graham is beating him all around the ring, walks right into a perfect right hand, drops like a rock and is breathing incredibly hard like he'd been shot or something. Brutal shot.

Mercer vs Morrison almost got the vote because that was absolutely savage as well. Surprised Morrison wasn't more hurt than he was from that one.

'None of the above.'

My write-in: Ingemar Johansson KO 1 Eddie Machen. But I am a tad prejudiced - I'm Swedish-American. :TU: :TU:
