Pacs speed of foot isnt it, more than his speed of hand (in this case). In and out like he was against DLH will be the game plan, with cotto looking to cut the ring off.

I picked DLH and <sighs> Hatton to be too big for Pac, so Im keeping quiet on this one. Was Manny even caught in those two fights, if he was I dont recall. Cotto will surely test him at 147 (well, 145).

Might not be as far fetched as it sounds, but unlikely.

Right now I would pick Christy Martin over Hatton.

You never know, the lay-off may well be the best thing that has happened to Floyd. Historically guys who have left for a while and come back fare badly, there are exceptions to the rule but for Leonard befuddling Hagler (and the judges) there is also the Kevin Howard situation. Floyd could be one or the other.

Marquez had to absorb pressure from Diaz, as this is what Diaz brought to the table. If he'd have given him movement and space Diaz would have gobbled that space up and gained momentum. In engaging him, Marquez took the play away and the plan did see him get hit but he managed to use it to his own ends and get a big win. This is a totally difference fight but I'm still not 100% convinced by the thinking that Marquez burned brightly for one last time versus Diaz, this is still the guy who made Manny look a complete prat at times in their second encounter.

Floyd's size will be telling in some respects but he is not a huge beast of a guy who will be all over Marquez from the get-go. Mayweather will give Marquez the space needed to work. Indeed, the pace could be dictated by Marquez early and this would upset Floyd's rhythm.

Oscar was able to match Floyd for size and came close (in the eyes of some) to beating him, Marquez is a far better boxer than Oscar, this may compensate for his size and win him the fight. Floyd is mercurial, Marquez methodical, in this situation I lean, half in hope as James stated, towards Marquez to pull off the huge win that his career deserves.

A lot depends on why Floyd is back. If he wanted to come back for his legacy or because he missed the sport then he will be a force. If he has come back to grab some easy cash to throw at his tax bill then he is here for the wrong reasons and will be found out.
Terry, I hope you're right.

Mayweather by stoppage, Marquez will have moments but too sporadic - Mayweather's defence will slip most of Marquez's shots and his own accuracy and strength will be telling.

I see something like Mayweather vs Judah.

Even if Mayweather's caught by a good shot, he's got a good chin.

He also handled Mosley's power, and there's no way on god's earth Pacman hits harder than Mosley.

Pac will hit him more and with punches he doesn't see. Pac will be able to tee off more than Mosley. Pacquaio is so fast that you can't see his powerful punches coming, even if he is standing right in front of you. But it's the footspeed that will be most troubling for Cotto because he'll just find it difficult to pin Pacman down and Pacman can land HARD punches going forward or backward.

By the way, quick question. Cotto is fighting Pacman at 145, PBF is fighting JMM (who won more rounds against Pacman and many people believe won both fights).

However, Floyd gets criticised for fighting JMM and Cotto doesn't get criticized for fighting Pac?

Mosley at 37 is not in Pacquiao's level in terms of speed. Cotto didn't handle Judah's power okay. I also maintain that Mosley went into the Cotto fight not confident. I think he was contented with doing a good job, I don't think he believed he was going to win.

Cotto isn't the same fighter he was against Mosley either. First few rounds will be telling in this fight. If Pacquiao can take Cotto's power he wins handily and by mid/late TKO in a one sided fight.

Mayweather UD close Marquez will push forward for a start and then counter punch I think that'll give Mayweather problems imo I see it being a point or 2 in it but PBF getting the nod

If PBF wishes to make a statement and he goes out of his way to prove recent Bob Arum comments wrong that he is not a "fighter" - then I will go for a late round stoppage - if I was betting on the fight maybe a couple of quid on each of the 10th, 11th and 12th rounds might be something I could be tempted into doing if I wanted to win some cash.

Unfortunately it seems the majority could be right and I think the more likely outcome will be PBF on a wide points victory.

err small matter of AM perhaps
Also cotto didnt handle mosely's speed at all, it was a very close fight and I thought SM deserved at least a draw if not the win.

Floyd to win, pretty easily, not too sure if it will go the distance.

Marquez is a fine fighter (in his natural division) but to make this match out to be competive is just absurd.

Floyd picks and chooses his spots when and who to fight, as he has always done, surely people cant be surprised about that?

At first i was thinking it was an easy floyd would win for sure, however i really think marquez is going to give floyd one of the hardest fights of his career, im still going with a floyd win but i am expecting a close decision.

As great as floyd is, when you look at his record and the circumstances around some of his opponents, i really dont think his resume is all that amazing.

The closer the fight draws, the more reasons I find to try and convince myself of JMM's chances.

I certainly rate him as more of a threat to Floyd than Hatton and Oscar posed. Hatton's performance has become a little overlooked and unduly derided in hindsight, despite being severely hampered by Cortez, he made a good go of it early on and I think the manner in which the KO came has helped to obscure what Hatton was able to do with Floyd in the early stages. Oscar, like Hatton, was far removed from his best when he fought Floyd and again, had his moments in there, enough so to make it a relatively close fight.

Now, Marquez is in a different league to those two in terms of technical ability, he's a craftier fighter, faster, supremely adaptable, potentially hungrier and even though he too looks to be slightly past his best, he's still coming off 3 of the best wins of his career, with the clause that Casa was probably a tad washed up and the Pac loss should've gone his way.

The difference in size at yesterday's weigh-in wasn't as outrageous as I'd been lead to believe, in fact, Marquez didn't look out of place standing next to Oscar, or even Hopkins! Pumped up trainers or not, he didn't look like a shrub amongst oak trees. He also looked incredibly serious and focussed, in contrast to Floyd who looked slightly uneasy picking up the showman routine where he'd left off.

So, if by some miracle, Marquez has done the weight the right way, retaining all that worked at the lower weights, keeping his speed, increasing his strength and adding pop to his shots, etc. and Floyd, coming off a long rest, has struggled to get to 146, let alone 144, might not have the same timing and reflex, who might also be dealing with financial and other (boxign vs MMA) distractions, then surely there's a decent chance that Marquez could be more than just in the fight.

If the tales of how badly Valero put it on Oscar in sparring are true, how badly he was worked over by Pac, not to mention what happened to Hatton against a smaller man, who's to say that a fighter who's shoulder to shoulder with that company won't produce similarly shocking results? Floyd's obviously a different kettle of fish defensively, but he's still open to being hit by someone with the speed and technically perfect combination punching of JMM.

I'm probably going to be very disappointed tonight, especially if Marquez gets steamrolled, but I've come to expect the unexpected in this sport and I'm really hoping Marquez can upset the odds and live up to the avoided darkhorse tag he's had for most of his career.

like i said, mayweather will lose eventually but not against JMM (dont ask me who - it's just a hunch). however this is not the gym, it is the real thing and it's just not pheasable that floyd will be a better fighter after a two year lay off. he isnt going to be as fast and his reflexes will not be as sharp. if they are then he is not a human being and now we know there is also going to be a weight problem for floyd. i think its going to be much closer than mayweather expected when he took the fight. he wins by decision but i think we may even see the pretty boy on his arse at some stage.

At first I was going to write "Mayweather Pts" but on reflection i'm not quite so convinced. Apart from a few fights at lightweight and his domination of a battleworn Gatti, he's hardly given us show reel after show reel performances.

This has upset written all over it. If we cut past the hype and bling and look at the facts I'll explain why :-

Firstly, Marquez has trained like a beast for months and is a very canny operator. He has looked very strong in training and is not that much smaller that Mayweather. Sure he is smaller but it's not a Haye vs Valuev difference.

Secondly, Marquez has been very active over the last two years. He dominated Barrera, Juarez, knocked out the lightweight Don in Casamayor and also handed Juan 'baby bull' Diaz his first KO defeat.

Thirdly, if the above don't sound impressive as it stands - in my book he beat the current pound for pound in Manny Pacquiao and took everything Manny threw and still came back for seconds.

Now if we look at Mayweather - 2 years ago he beat Ricky Hatton, who might have been past his best, fighting the wrong fight and also hindered by the referee.

Secondly he was lucky to scrape past Oscar De La Hoya in my book and hardly ripped the title off Oscar with his defence minded approach. Then the fight before that was 2006 which was a really dreadful performance against Carlos Badlomir where fans walked out before the final bell.

Mayweather is super talented, but i think he's going to let that supremacy go to his head at some point and Marquez could land something of note in the exchanges.

I'm sure we'll all be back on this thread tomorrow a) praising Mayweather faultless display or b) utterly shocked the little man has blitzed Mr bling.

What i dont want to see is any dubious decisions.
