Anyone had an ACL reconstruction (Knee op)..?

Post by Jedi Knight »

ACL meaning Anterior cruciate ligament which is located towards the front of the knee which is a major ligament for stability in the knee.

Well I'm having one in January from a footty injury and I wondered if anyone has had one or knows anyone who's had one?

Looked at the Op on the internet and it looks bloody nasty. They actually graft part of a ligament from your hamstring and then attatch it to your knee... :o  :x

I also have to have a meniscus cartulage repair at the same time...2 hours in theater man....not looking forward to this one.

Can't beleive I have been playing competitve football with both these injuries (only knew about one of them)

Jedi,

You might be able to help me. I am looking (as part of my Phd) for people who are requring physiotherapy treatment as a result of an athletic injury.

I know a fair amount of ACL injury (as it is the most common injury in studies like the one I am doing). I ain't going to beat around the bush, its a nasty injury you have got and its a nasty op and it takes weeks/months to recover from. However, to look on the bright side it is quite a common operation now and it is done regular - if you were a pro footballer then obviously there is a huge concern. However, in most case (and I mean in the hgh 90%) a full recovery is expected without too much concern. Its tricky, its gruesome but just keep positive and you'll be okay mate.

I love to know more about your injury and I hope maybe you can be a participant for my study.

Please e-mail me on [email protected] and we can discuss futher. The study might not get passed the ethics board (where it is at now) but I honestly cannot see why not. Just thought I would let you know that because it may be a week or so before I get full clearance and then we can properly discuss.

Cheers.

Stu.
