Froch v Dirrell - Was it really a robbery?

On a scale of 0-10, was the Froch points win a robbery?

10 - At least Dick Turpin wore a mask - blatant as you like

I thought Dirrell won, but I have seen much worse. I hope people really stop going overboard on Froch after this fight. He does not have great power, he does not apply huge pressure, and he does not have a granite chin. He is tough, strong, and in excellent shape, but he is not great.

A draw would probably have been a fair result, so a split decision in Froch's favour is certainly no robbery. A poor fight, really, from start to finish - I doubt either fighter won any new fans last night.

Didn't watch the fight. Haven't been feeling to well recently.

What are you talking about? Froch would have beaten Hagler, Herns and Sugar Ray!.

i thought froch won a boring fight quite easily. dirrell should be ashamed of himself for that performance.

I didn't actively score the fight but thought the judges would of given a UD to Dirrell. However as others have said across the forum he stank the place out, didn't come to fight and ran all night so I'm glad he lost - maybe he will re-evaluate and come to fight next time.

However he looked hurt a few times from glancing shots and Abraham brings more power, more accuracy, more menace to the table than Froch so if he does go to fight against Abraham he will get marmalised. If he goes in there runs and stinks the place out theres no way he gets the decision in Germany especially with that style.

Froch vs Kessler can only be ten times a better fight than Froch v Dirrell.

Had time to think about this one again.

I still thought Dirrell won the fight - but I also acknowledge some of the rounds were very difficult to score.

It is going to go down as one of them fights that has got us talking for the wrong reasons as we are split with regards to the outcome - I acknowledge again it is not one of the biggest controversy's ever seen but nonetheless I thought Dirrell won the fight by a good couple of rounds.

Yes Dirrell ran all night - yes he was negative and yes everytime Froch tried to open up Dirrell held on for dear life - however lets turn this around - do you feel Froch did enough to win the fight? - I dont.

The saving grace for Dirrell and another reason why this will not go down as a massive controversy is that Dirrell has a couple more fights to get himself into the next stage of this tournament and also make himself a sizeable amount of money.

I wouldn't have complained about any result in that fight because it was so hard to score. Dirrell's performance was definitely one of someone who wanted to become a champoin though. He scored quite well with his fast hands, but he basically ran and held all night. Froch didn't land as many clean shots, but he got enough in and he forced the fight nearly the whole way, so I have no problem with him getting the decision.

Don't really like the poll -- horribly biased, 'cos all the "Froch won" votes are concentrated in one option, whereas the opposing opinion gets spread out over several options. It looks dodgy.

Not saying that you did this deliberately Ian, but it just looks off for me.

As to the fight: I've just watched it again -- Froch was as awful as I thought last night. I thought Dirrell showed him up a bit, & definitely deserved the nod. If he'd have kept up the "stealing the fight" gig into the championship rounds, then yeah you might be excused in coming down in favour of Froch (though you'd still be wrong).

But I still think Froch was coming apart in the eleventh, lost the tenth (level with the point deduction) & lost the twelfth as well.

Apart from opinions that sound like they were in place beforehand ("You have to take the title from the champion" & all that shite) & concentrating on what actually transpired in the ring, I can't really see anyway you could give Froch more than four rounds or so. Can anyone tell me a round where he wasn't landing in the single digits?

Depends on what you define as a robbery. It was close, but in no way did Froch win so in that aspect i do believe it was a robbery (though there have been worse).

Sure, Dirrell was back-pedalling, but would you want him to stand and trade with Froch was 12 rounds? The footwork shown when he was backed up into the corners was quite marvellous.

Also, i do believe the people who thought Froch won because of the negativity of Dirrell, should try and put their bias views to the side and watch/score the rounds again. I was frustrated because Froch couldn't land, but soon accepted that Dirrell was away on Froch's turf, and quite literally dancing rings round the Cobra.

Oh, and not forgetting that when they did both trade- Dirrell was slapping Carl about.

To quote from another thread..
crusader wrote:I didn't think Dirrell was hurt. His legs were always there, he just doesnt like to fight on the inside, and thus the holding. Froch was hurt worse in the 11th than Dirrell was at anytime. The majority of Frochs connects came in the clinch, Dirrell was landing the cleaner punches, harder punches, and put on a defensive clinic. Wether he was entertaining or not is irrelevant. This is boxing, it incorporates a wide variety of skills that fighters use to their advantage. Dirrell just happened to have superior hand/foot speed and boxing ability, so why on earth trade wiith Froch?

I gave Froch only three rounds and a share of the first. So, yes, it definitely was a robbery.

You shouldn't win fights by just plodding forward and occasionally swiping at thin air. Dirrell threw more, landed more, showed better defence, better ring generalship and actually hurt Froch a lot more than Froch hurt him. I even thought Froch was on his way out a couple of times in the last few rounds.

Dirrell won. Quite comfortably.

i thought dirrell won. :OhYes:

if anyone should have got the nod it was him.

but i have no major complaints.

mainly cos of the defensive tactics of dirrell.

he only has himself to blame.

yeah froch was reluctant to let go himself.

and when he did he was failing to get to dirrell.

i said beforehand he'd struggle to pin dirrell down and he did. ;;-)

just a shame 2 of those judges were watching something else. :witzend:

How can you say that?

That is taking partisanship to a cretinous extreme. Weren't the fans robbed by Froch's flailing off-balance into the ropes? Or by the way he was shut down in the eleventh & twelfth? Or his general inability to land any clean punches?

Actually, what got your back up before the fight? You've been defensive & petulant all weekend. Even before the fight started you sounded like that (with your "Graham Houston" comments) & your whining has neared a crescendo.

I notice though that even you have given up trying to defend the decision.

Why would a draw have been fair mate, because you scored the rounds or because you were annoyed with Dirrell's negativity?

It was a robbery IMO. As bad as McDermott vs Fury on my card. I think those that think it was close are being bias for the British fighter. Had this been in the states or germany and Froch fought like dirrell and dirrell fought like Froch... then we would have been crying out.

Think it is out of order saying "we are due a hometown decisions". This is not football refereeing in which mistakes even itself out over the course of the season. Dirrells' 0 has gone, along that comes some of the marquee value he has.... and it shouldn't have.
