Just seen it then. I think ref could have let it go a little longer...

I knew green was going to win, dont know why most people here thought jones was gonna win (green is aussie and this is a aussie boxing forum :bag: )

The late Ray Mitchell always said a good referee stops a fight when one fighter is copping punches and not throwing any back. That was the situation last night.

Expert (noun): From "ëx" meaning has been and "spurt " meaning drip under pressure.

The "ex-spurts " went for Jones.

Absolutely. The ref gave him every opportunity to show he was still in the fight and throw something back and he couldn't. That's the time to stop it.

As with any blood-thirsty, knockout craving fan I too wanted to see the fight continue

But seriously, it was a good stoppage. RJJ wasn't recovering and it would have been even more pain if the ref let it continue.

FANTASTIC win from Danny.

Most of the shots were hitting gloves. RJ had his hands high and chin down I'd have given him 5 more seconds being the legend that he is

Roy's head was not snapping back from punches hitting gloves. Those were uppercuts.

I'm not a fan of the principle that a fighter has to throw something back to prevent being stopped, so long as he's defending himself adequately. You can't say "in no position to defend himself", when he evidently is doing precisely that!

Having said that, this was not one of those examples. Fair enough to let it go after the knockdown, as Jones was blocking most of the shots, but once the action moved off the roped, it was plain that Jones' legs had gone. When he still hadn't gotten them back a bit later, and Green was showing no signs of letting up, that was enough to validate the stoppage.

think the ref timed the stoppage well.Green was getting some through, one particular upper cut springs to mind+the bodyshots aand Danny was being relentless. If it had of gonee on i fear at some point aa BIG one would have landed. Jones was gone.

So, Oliver, are you agreeing or disagreeing it was a well-timed stoppage?

Seems like you are having a bob each way, mate.

Agreeing.

The kind of scenario I don't like is, for example, Calzaghe-Manfredo. The justification for stopping it is "he wasn't throwing anything back", but if he's defending himself well, then so what? Defence is just as much a part of boxing as attack.

So I just brought that up because it's been mentioned as why Jones was stopped, so I wanted to have my say on that particular trend. In this case, though, it was fine to let Jones go on - until he got a look at his legs after the ref parted them, and he was reeling. It was a perfectly timed stoppage.
