Brussos' mother didn't approve of Noah fighting, so to get around it Brusso took the name of a jockey - Tommy Burns - and continued to fight.

From what I have read, Terry McGovern took credit. McGovern stated that he was referee for some bouts in Michigan and Burns caught his eye as a possible comer. McGovern stated that one of the only things that he saw wrong with Burns not becoming a popular boxer was his name of Noah Brusso, so Terry said that he suggested Tommy Burns and the rest was history. It may not be the actual truth as to why Burns was chosen, but McGovern did take credit for it.
