I will think about removing Woods for next month's list, but I will keep Dunne in for a few months as he has only just retired.Asterix wrote:Agreed. And also agreed on removing Woods and Dunne as they have retired.

Even if Dunne was to change his mind, he's unlikely to do so anytime in the next 6 months.Horse wrote:I will think about removing Woods for next month's list, but I will keep Dunne in for a few months as he has only just retired.Asterix wrote:Agreed. Therefore if he was to turn around and decide to box again he'd be out of your rankings already anyway.
So in reality you may aswell just cross him off next time you do your list as he's just filling space for no reason.
Same stands for most boxers, those that do unretire generally won't do so until 6 months+ have surpassed, so why not re rank them if they do so, rather than maintaining a rank they shouldn't have.

I don't leave fighters in for months after their retirement just to get into arguments. If a fighter starts a boxing season as an active fighter, then I don't see a problem in leaving them in for a few months until the start of the new boxing season in September, other people see it differently.
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
Many people feel a boxer should be removed immediately after retirement, but some prefer to leave a boxer in for a while afterwards. The quiet man 2004 wrote:Shouldnt a boxer leave the rankings if he announces his retirement?????

A few months ?, Scott Harrison was there about 2 1/2 years after his last fight ?Horse wrote:Londonirish wrote:As you say he is Retired, so why not take him out, if he does have sudden change of heart as you say then keep track of where you would of had him, i think that makes more sense... The problem with leaving them in is it makes your ranking appear out of date, or at the very least sort of irrelevant(no offense), because in your mind you look at the rankings and then have to discount fighters on the list who have retired and restructure it to the way it should be(without the retired fighters), it just clutters up the rankings aimlessly.
Of course it's your list so you could name all retired fighters and no active fighters on it if you wanted to and still describe it as 'British Top 30 P4P March 2010'.

I think that would look a bit messy.feargalocuinneagain wrote:Put the fighters from the North down as Irish/British. Macklin (as Asterix suggests) also down as Irish/British.

Yes he was!
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
Witter hasn't won a fight in over a year and has lost against his last two World class opponents. So, I think that position No.5 on the list is too high for him at the moment.DG. wrote:Better list!
But...Froch Number 2 - Hatton numnber 4 and Witter number 5
Although, if Alexander wins his unification fight tomorrow then Witter will have only ever lost to fighters who have gone on to become a unified champion (Judah, Bradley and Alexander), which would suggest that losing to those fighters shouldn't be held against him too much.
When Witter fights again I will reconsider his position.
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
I still count them as active fighters if they have fought within the last year, so I see no need to rush them out of the list, even if they have announced their retirement.BigEars wrote:Even if Dunne was to change his mind, he's unlikely to do so anytime in the next 6 months.

I don't leave a retired fighter on the list longer than 12 months after their last fight, so I don't see the big fuss about it.
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
Horse is only doing the same as Boxrec does... allows a year of inactivity... however AFAIK Boxrec moves a fighter to 'All-Time' ratings if they announce retirement dont they?
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
Yeah, if boxer announces their retirement then boxrec bypasses the years inactivity and just marks them down as retired.MatthewS wrote:Horse is only doing the same as Boxrec does... allows a year of inactivity... however AFAIK Boxrec moves a fighter to 'All-Time' ratings if they announce retirement dont they?
As you can see with Clinton Woods, he is no longer rated as an active boxer: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
I think Horse should use the same method.
Re: British Top 30 P4P March 2010
Scott Harrison never retired though.BigEars wrote:A few months ?, Scott Harrison was there about 2 1/2 years after his last fight ?
Last month there was only one retired boxer, this month there are two, it is hardly cluttered with them.BigEars wrote:The problem with leaving them in is it makes your ranking appear out of date, or at the very least sort of irrelevant(no offense), because in your mind you look at the rankings and then have to discount fighters on the list who have retired and restructure it to the way it should be(without the retired fighters), it just clutters up the rankings aimlessly.

Currently none of the boxers in the top 30 have been inactive for over a year.

I allow up to a year of inactivity for retired fighters, but a fighter that has not retired can stay on the list indefinitely.MatthewS wrote:Horse is only doing the same as Boxrec does... allows a year of inactivity... however AFAIK Boxrec moves a fighter to 'All-Time' ratings if they announce retirement dont they?

I also left McCullough in for years, it is just my policy.sweetscience wrote:the way you kept harrison on list for years led me too believe you were scottish

I think I punish inactivity a lot more now, so I don't think there will be many more Harrison/McCullough incidents again.
