I like your attitude, your 14 right? Just keep on the straight and narrow (women and the party life style) and I'm sure you will be fine. Without even watching you, you seem like a determined young man with lots of ambitions. Keep the attitude up in the gym and you will go far. Attitude and determination (living the life) is 3/4 of what you need.
Even in my limited experience, I have seen plenty of talented amateurs screw up (because they are not cut out for the demands and like the women/beer/fags). I have also seen lots less talented fighters realise some goals (like a Welsh vest) because what they lacked in talented, they more than made up for in training. Indeed there was one guy a few years older than me in the gym who we (me and my father who used to come in to see me spar) dubbed the trainer. He was get anhilated in sparring with the internationals, but would anhilate us all in the gym work. Before he left, he fought for Wales and made the semi's of the WABA's.
Cons: Hands held too low, too many right hand leads (leaving yourself open to counters), too erratic - pick your punches more accurately and you could have stopped your opponent.
that fight was last December if iam correct...things i have changed since then: -
I use a jab (a good stiff, sharp jab)
I always thought i had shit hand speed as my dad trained me in the pro style (takle your times have a look origianly), so we've had to change my style althogether...but i'm deffinatley alot sharper!
My hands have come up alot!
First of all I`d like to say how good you are, very good in fact.
Suppose the warnings of the women and booze are correct but at the end of the day enjoy the sport because if it becomes boring this is what will end it for you, go out with your mates and enjoy yourself whilst your young but just remember what sport your doing and what could help or hinder your success.
The thing that impressed me was the delivery of the right hand, very good and with better timing and maturity the stoppages are just round the corner.
You throw most of the punches well but perhaps to turn the left hook over a little more with a bit more of the shoulder.
Footwork was good as was the balance.
I would describe you as an attacking counter-puncher and it has been said earlier about your low hands, more use of the jab and atleast 4-5 punches when they do go, I am sure you seen the Pacman V Morales fight, Morales there forced mistakes out of the Pacman and also feinted his way in, the art of feinting is becoming a lost art, to jab your way in may be the text book rule but to cleverly feint is well worth mastering.
Thanks i'm taking all your comments onboard...thats the only thing i fear WOMEN as i am very popular with them One thing is i will never get bored off boxing, and having Chris Aston as my dad will/should help me along the way if things start happening with mates etc
One thing that really pisses me off is you watch me spar with anyone Dale Robinson-Abdul Mougharbel-Josh Wale-Joe Murray-Shinny bayaar and i do very well winning rounds, loseing rounds and drawing rounds! Then when i spar with national champs of my weight (below and above) age etc i dominate i seem on another level/out of there league!
But for some reason can't perform in fights like i do in sparring any help!
But 1 thing i can tell you now is i will do alot better as a Pro than as an Amatuer the longer fight the better i get. 6/8/10/12 rounders can't wait!

Not many fighters actually can perform as well as they do in sparring, it's definitely a psychological thing. So much pressure built up before the actual fight. The key is to relax as much as possible and let your mind work as well as your body when you're in there. Being able to think in a fight like you do in sparring is very difficult...the more experience you get in actual competition the better you get at it.
I didn't watch your fight though...it wont let me download it, because the url is blocked.
A few people din't get the fight so...i'll upload it and send it out in PMs to those who have asked...leave your name if you missed it and wish to have it
I'll pass thanks. I haven't seen you fight but I'm sure you have the determination to do something. It's not all about ability, although I am sure you have plenty of it; but boxing is a lot more to do with determination to succeed. If you keep in mind during your boxing career, whether it be amateur or professional, that you only get out of the sport what you put in, then you will reap the rewards that you deserve.
I'm trying to find you said that quote Owain, but it is correct. There are alot of "arts" that are dying especially in the UK where in the pro's it seems to be getting more and more about power and strength.
