BRITISH COLUMBIA AMATEUR BOXING HALL OF FAME

Post by Zelley »

BC Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame
By brian zelley

As we travel throught the pages of amateur boxing history in British Columbia one thing that is very
clear is there is no real effective method used to
recognize the many individuals and clubs that have carried the torch forward. On first blush, it may appear that nobody cares, but it reality many do care
but they have no perfect forum to sing their praises.

Of course BOXING BC does have various awards for boxers and builders that are presented on an annual basis. BUT, when one reads through the long list of boxing programs for major tournaments very little is displayed to recognize the many unsung heroes.

In British Columbia there is a BC Sports Hall of Fame
but it has not effectively recognized many involved in amateur and/or pro boxing. The list for boxing is restricted to only seven with countless worthy folks
left on the outside looking in.

So, in my opinion, there is only one real course of action and that is to establish a
BRITISH COLUMBIA AMATEUR BOXING HALL OF FAME :box: now is the time to bring back pride in the sport of amteur boxing in BC, Canada :bag:
By December 2010, there will be anannouncement of
the first ever inductees into the
BC Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame
- and pride and respect for amateur boxing will return
to British Columbia like a fresh breeze from the Pacific Ocean and the Salish Sea and the aroma of the fresh sap oozing from the Spruce Tree.

ROUND 2 - Selection & Elimination
process is hours away and will result in about 31 of 50 names
being carried forward to Round 2. The new list will include a cross section
of folks that have been or are still involve in amateur boxing in British
from early persons such as WILLIAM j. FINLAY, considered to be the main
force behind the annual BC Golden Gloves since inception in 1939.

KENNY LINDSAY - overlooked in the selection process

One of 50 names that began in round one was KENNY LINDSAY.
lindsay is one of the eight original Golden Gloves champions that turned pro
and fought for the world bantamweight title, and also fought other world chamoions and top contenders.

However, a review of the list of about 31 moving to the next roun, the name KENNY LINDSAY
is not included. With only a couple of hours left is it possible one of the earliest great boxers
of British Columbia will be left on the sidelines.
