Sucker Punch at The Royal Court Theatre

Post by lefthook82 »

Hey guys

I don't know if you have heard of this play but there is a theatre production set in a boxinfat The Royal Court Theatre, Sloane Square

It is about racism in the 80s with a heavy boxing focus. The protagonists are two black men on the wrong side of the tracks, a white coach, white rival boxer and the coach's daughter. For the anoraks there are clear Minter/Hagler and Bruno/Lewis references that would go over the heads of regular theatregoers. There is also a fight at the end, I wont say anymore so as to not ruin it

It is a fantastic production but it is finishing on the 31st July so those who have yet to see it need to book tickets NOW!! Tickets are £10,£18 and £25 but I think lastminute.com have some deals in place

I know this is not much of a review but you could google the name and read professional opinions on the show, it has received universal acclaim

For those who have seen it already, what did you think?

It made me want to fight to be honest. I loved loved loved it. Easily one of my favourite ever productions

Watched it a week or so ago and thought it was excellent. Very impressed by the way they've dramatised the boxing and the actors are very convincing - Errol Christie's done a fantastic job with them. Cracking set too that's just like a real gym.

Any boxing fan will enjoy it.

It is good to see that Errol Christie is involved in what sounds like a realistic boxing production. Reading of the skipping scenes reminds me of the famous footwork scenes in Gentleman Jim, which were performed by middleweight Freddie Steele.
