Your Night of Boxing:

Post by Crease »

*Note: This tpoic has been done before but, what the hell?*

If you could choose 10 fights (yep, 10 those specatators are spoilt) which 10 fights would you like to see?

It can be any boxer from any time fighting each other, but try and keep the fights competitive. :TU:
oh, and do state what weight you want the fight held at.

These are the ones through 1910 that I'd like to see:

July 4, 1890
John L. Sullivan v. Peter Jackson
Marquis of Queensbury Rules – no round limit
New Orleans, LA
George Siler as referee

February 24, 1897
Joe Walcott v. Tommy Ryan
25 rounds for Ryan’s world welterweight title
Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY
George Siler as referee

December 13, 1900
Terry McGovern v. Joe Gans
6 rounds
Tattersall’s, Chicago, Illinois
George Siler as referee
(THIS TIME ON THE UP-AND-UP – AND NO DIVE BY GANS!!)

May 11, 1900
Tommy Ryan v. Bob Fitzsimmons
20 rounds for the undisputed middleweight title
Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York
George Siler as referee (undercard of the Jeffries-Corbett bout).

March 23, 1905
James J. Jeffries v. Jack Johnson
25 rounds for Jeffries heavyweight title
Woodward’s Pavilion, San Francisco, CA
Ed Graney as referee

September 19, 1910
Sam Langford v. Stanley Ketchel
25 rounds for Ketchel’s world middleweight title
Naud Junction Pavilion, Los Angeles, CA
Charles Eyton as referee
(Obviously, Ketchel sees Dipley coming for him with the gun, and survives!)

Crease, regarding the Caucasian Clash...

A mate of mine claims that Dempsey's folks played down the native American indian side of the family due to the way it was viewed at the time. He also thinks that by today's standards of defining race in the USA he probably wouldn't be categorised as caucasian. My mate's the reliable sort. He could be wrong but annoyingly he's usually not.

I did say arguably. But for the record, I think David Tua would either KO Golota or frustrate him into DQ'ing himself. I don't doubt there is another case for " Uncrowned Champion" contender's in the Heavyweight division, but Golota considering all of his faults, I don't think is it.

Well, I'm not trying to be funny here, BUT in every photo and fight that I've seen of Jack Dempsey, I would safely say that he is a white man. :TU:

Yep. By singing to him. And "Iron Mike" committs suicide in the mid-rounds.

Marvin Hagler vs Carlos Monzon

Floyd Mayweather JR vs Pernell Whitaker @ Light Weight

Joe Louis vs Muhammad Ali

Roberto Duran vs Manny Pacquiao @ light weight

Joe Frazier vs Mike Tyson

Sugar Ray Robinson vs Ray Leonard @ welter weight (Just to see Leonard get outclassed)

Sugar Ray Robinson vs Tommy Hearns @ welter weight

Manny Pacquiao vs Julio Caser Chavez @ light welter weight

Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins @ middle weight

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao @ welter weight

P.S.

I too made the same mistake of many, I didn't realize these bouts were to potentially take place on the same night.

I wouldn't put it past Sugar Ray Robinson to win both of his fights in a night however.
