It was two years ago that Lakatos pushed Uzelkov to the limit....not exactly ages ago. Lakatos has been in with some of the best at 175: Erdei, Garay, Uzelkov, Michalczewski, etc. and he has been competitive with them all. He has never been dominated, so I'm not sure what your logic is for expecting Mckenzie to do a number on him. I think you need to realize that Mckenzie's wins have all come over domestic oposition. Bolye, 41 year old Dunstan, etc..and it was only a year or so ago he was losing to the likes of Ajisafe. Lakatos has proven his durabilty and toughness at a higher level. If he could fight close bouts with the best at 175, I don't think he would struggle greatly with British domestic fighters.
Yeah and Danny Williams has been in with some of the best heavyweights. Lakatos has a ranking of 71, and he's last 2 opponents and the ones prior to Uzelkov, have been pathetic. He is also in his late 30's. My arguement is that I just feel they could of done alot better with his opponent, thats all. I also know lot's of people have the same view.
And? That iis an argumentative fallacy.
McKenzie is a good opponent for Bomber at this stage, but I don't see how he is any better than Lakatos. Lakatos has not shown any signs of being shot like Williams did later in his career, and McKenzie has beaten opposition that is far from even Euro class. Billy Boyle? Terry Dunstan? Put it in perspective mate. Mckenzie has shown himself to be a decent domestic operator, but nothing more.
Anyways, I don't think either opponent is a terrible choice. Of course I would have loved to see Clev in with Brahmer, fighting for the full version of the belt, but the situation with the WBO made it difficult to do so.
Great fight, good on all involved for making it happen, fair play to the promoters for starting to work like that too.
Both can bang and both will come out determined but I think it will be Bellew's extra bit of skill that decides this fight.
Really looking forward to this car now, haven't been to a show in a couple of months (since moving up t'north) so can't wait.
Be the first time I see you in action live not on the TV Bomber so looking for a good performance! Also bringing my mrs's little brother, just getting into boxing and is a big blue so got him onto you been watching some of your fights etc and seen you on the pitch the other week, he's now a big fan ha

If Lakatos is such a great opponent why as he be spending the last 3 years fighting opponents with more losses on there records than victories. Surely he would of been in there mixing it with the worlds best? or up and coming fighters like Cleverly.

I'm afraid this opponent stinks and has more to do with him being under a promotional company that Frank seems to be doing a lot business with at present.
I didn't say he was a great opponent, I just don't think he is a terrible opponent. His fight with the top 10/15 Uzelkov was less than three years ago, and being competitive with him means more than any of McKenzie's wins over the likes of Billy Boyle. Clev fought a top 8 type of opponent in his last bout, and would have jumped at the chance to fight Brahmer, but Brahmer's legal problems meant a downgrade in opponent. Of course that was disappointing, but little could be done about it. Lakatos is a durable type and should give Clev some rounds. He was scheduled to fight Brahmer before the German injured himself, so by impressively beating Lakatos, Clev can send a message to Brahmer.

Sad really
Yes. My apologies to Bomber for helping take this thread off topic. Bellew-McKenzie should be an exciting bout. Mckenzie is a good opponent who should come to fight. I think Bellew will have too much for him though.
orbtastic wrote:He impressed me in prizefighter, he boxed well against much bigger guys. I think his style could make things awkward for Bellew.
What happened in his fight with Francis? I don't think it was televised due to Francis being in promotional stasis at the time.
I think its the test that Bellew needs at this stage of his career, Mckenzie can obviously bang a bit and his victory in prizefighter isnt to be taken lightly.
I'd expect Bellew to come through, but it won't be a walk over.
he was suppose to fight in december anyway and has been in training preparing for a fight, but last week he got this offer and pulled out of his other fight to take this
i predict a big k.o from bellew, mckenzie must be respected as he is proven to be a good solid fighter with a huge punch but i believe bellew has everything in his advantage with the exception of pro experience
Bellew should beat him fairly easily, McKenzie looked good over the 3 round duration but looked terrible against Ajisafe after 3 rounds. After about 3 rounds this fight will be a one sided beat down. Bellew to stop him in 7 with Mckenzie showing heart taking a beating after 3 rounds
i think this is gonna be a very cagey & tense fight early on & could be ended by either potentially. i just hope they are both able to get warm & war it up

so is this Bellews progress fighting the man who bob beat, gotta get a wiggle on son your 27
Didn't know 27 was old?? I'll do things in my time. I am contesting titles within 12 fights so I feel I'm moving quick enough thanks. Let's also not forget I did actually beat bob too if you remember come the 11th hopefully I'll answer more questions regarding me!!

I'm sure he can be a world champ if he just takes your sound advise...
Maybe if he starts throwing a few jabs you can tell all your mates that it's because of you he's doing that?

He has but it doesn't really matter. Both lads found out at pretty much the same time.
he hasnt.
he may have only had a months notice that hes fighting bellew but he was already fighting in december, so its not like he wasnt in shape or hasnt had time to fully prepare for a fight
