I gotta go with the great Manuel Ortiz... A very underrated fighter. Made about 16 title defenses in first reign, something like that, for a period of 5 years and then regained the bantam crown from Harold Dade in 1947. Are there videos of this great fighter?

Ortiz is somewhat of an obvious #1 with Canizales being the other guy with a serious argument. When you look at what De La Hoya did in terms of weight jumping it's pretty impressive though. He has a glittering record.

I think Michael Carbajal deserves a mention as well though, his prime didn't last long thanks to getting his face shredded on a constant basis but he was a tough and exciting little guy and the way he ended his career by knocking the crap out of the young version of the granite chinned Jorge Arce is very impressive.

Level of opposition ( he fought everyone who is anyone) across different weight divsions.

A refreshing attitude, fighting the best available, without fear or obstacles,

Lost some, won more. Top fighter in my eyes. Certainly deserves more recognition than his comtemporaries.

Nice call on Carbajal. Agreed that Ortiz is the clear #1 here. But I have to say that Oscar is definitively above Canizales imo. Orlando is a tad overrated these days. In fact he fits perfectly in that other thread. Very talented fighter, opposition was too thin to rate over Oscar. I'd put Michael ahead of him too.

Possibly. He didn't drain much, as shown where he was just 112 against Matlala on fight night, so almost all of his weight loss was straight up fat, which makes it more dramatic considering he was about 5'5".

I forgot to put Michael Carbajal. My favorite chicano fighter was Bobby Chacon...What a warrior
