Get a grip do you think making feable challenges on an internet forum were going to bite and take up a challenge from someone i personally have never heard of,go and win some fights and earn the right to be in the Q :bag: Then Ricky will smash your man! :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:

What's your connection with this tagoe guy your on about? Ricky Burns has deserved his decisions he's achieved in winning and defending his title so far.

A guy who seems to have been beaten by everybody! He got beat by a lad from my home town Bolton called Ricky Godding who just doesn't seem to have the power. Surely Cook would need a couple more fights against reputable opponents before stepping up again?

Ricky Godding is a welterweight too , my Bro was meant to fighting him end of june before he got the prizefighter call

Yousef should give cook some rounds but no more than that
Would imagin cook is going to come in bit heavier than superfeatherweight

You don't need power to be a good boxer. Av saw Godding a few timed now and he is a good boxer. But yes I do agree Cook should box a higher/bigger name.

Al Hamidid is such an awkward guy tae box but Cook should be in against some international opposition in my opinion. Someone who'll test him.

If that's the case then it's three poor challengers in a row. Hopefully Burns steps it up if he makes a successful title defense.

Tagoe is a lot better known than Laryea - and you should brush up on who he is because it's likely he'll come over soon from Africa. Vicente Martin Rodriguez (WBC 10th WBO 7th) was meant to be his opponent for the Africa WBO title, but he fought countryman after Rodriguez pulled out. AKA 'Game Boy' he is about 21/22 years old and came to light after beating Abdul Malik Jabir (Ghana national champ) and "teak tough" :D

He lost his first ever fight, as he'd only been boxing a little over 7 months when they threw him in with Ghana's Commonwealth amateur boy. He hasn't lost since and is a veritable 'bonanza' of a fighter.
Mate rickys first defence of the commonwealth was against an African with 17ko's out of 19 fights and Burns stopped him,Rickys style is ideal for African fighters who all seem to box the same way and seem to have the same weaknesses imo. NO FEAR AT ALL
Pfffffffffth - I could count the number of minutes on one hand that Ricky Burns would have lasted with Azumah Nelson. (and I am including the minute between the first and second round)

I have pissed my pants laughing again thanks to boxrec!

Unlike you i think people knew i was refering to the modern african fighters,Nelson was an exceptional fighter (ELITE) possibly the best ever from Africa.

Billy, Ricky doesn't have the measure of all modern African fighters - it is just that the African fighters he has fought up till now haven't been in his league. Charlie Magri used to fight and beat a lot of Mexicans but they weren't in his class - and then every so often he would fight a Mexican who would knock him out - fight enough African fighters and Ricky is going to get beaten.

I would say there are enough good African fighters over the years who would have beaten Ricky Burns quite easily - Hogan Bassey, David Kotey, Brian Mitchell, Cornelius Boza Edwards, our mate here on boxrec - Affif Djelti - who I would put money to KO Burns and take his title now!

It's not bad, not saying you are a bad trainer (because you are a good trainer) and I am not saying Ricky is a bad fighter (he isn't - he is rather good) what I am saying is that Africa is a big place and we don't know who is coming up from there in the future. Azumah Nelson shocked the American boxing world in how he handled Salvador Sanchez before he was stopped in the 15th and final round.

agreed, we dont need to make claims for ricky to fight to, mendez has a world title shot coming up which he earned himself in africa beating cassius baloyi. so no one needs to open gobs etc for mendez. billie just upset cos i think mendez would win when i was asked in an interview. (which he would) , maybe ricky will fight fana now fana dont want any of mendez, ( cos Fana knows he'll lose to, badly, so vacated )

ricky's a great champion and very good guy, deserves his success, very professional in and out the ring

but billie you dont know anything about mendez, :surprised:

Very nice of Ricky to step in and do this. I'd be suprised if Britain's other world champs would have done the same.

Any word on who Ricky will be fighting next? I'd be a little disappointed if it is Nicky Cook. I used to really like Cook but i don't think he's done anything to deserve a title shot at Burns.

I'd also like to see Burns get a bit more TV coverage/press. He always comes to fight, leaves everything in the ring and seems a genuinely nice bloke.

Any word on his next opponent Billy?

I was hoping it would be Fana but it looks as though he's given up the IBF title which takes away some of the importance of the fight, which is a pity.

bernard just won title at 46 pal, foreman, and host of others over 30 to, cos they were good enough, your discrediting baloyi who is very highly thought of in south africa as one of there best ever fighters, and how old is Fana? so why was you looking at him?? baloyi has big names on his resume,

mendez WILL WIN his world title shot he already has and will move on and up, (he already earned his right, he aint thinking of ricky m8) and how did Layrae earn a right for his shot b4 appleby 13 oppenents he beat had 5 wins between them, the other guy was featherweight ,

i answered a question when interviewed billy dont do handstands over it man, its opinions, you say ricky all day, i know mendez everyday, opinions
