At the risk of raking up what should be done and dusted, had an interesting email exchange with our friends at BNation that I'd like to share.

I contacted them on thursday, disappointed at the late cancellation of the DeGale card, seeking an explanation of the "unforeseen circumstances" that were cited by the website as the reason for cancellation. It read:

This is extremely disappointing. One of the key reasons that I subscribed to allegedly in the first instance was the potential quality of this proposed card. Had I known this wasn't happening I would almost certainly have held off until the schedule for 2012 was
less bare.

Could you please provide more detail on what unforeseen circumstances actually means as I'd like to know whether I can expect more instances during the period in which I am subscribing.

I expected little in response, but to be fair, they were pretty sharp in providing the following reply by 1pm on friday:

Hi John

Thanks for contacting allegedly

James DeGale has reportedly pulled out of his scheduled Friday bout according to online sources. Again we're sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks

allegedly

Huh? Has anything been released as to the reason for the card being pulled? Not conjucture or guesswork, but something official?

I watch boxing in the pub.

He gets allegedly for a tenner a month and has six tellys.

I once spoke to allegedly when Audley Harrison was leading the BBC a merry dance with his opponents he conceded; given the same scenario "He'd have done exactly the same thing".

The allegedly content was always going to be good until encryption, then weak, weak, weak, strong, weak, weak, weak. There will be a good bill around pay-day every month, then three weeks of nothing.

I'll go the pub, its only £2.29 a pint and he does free curry and chips on fight nights.

And perhaps if they didn't have Pundit Select XI they may afford some more content...which is fighters fighting.

TheCobra wrote:If it comes on Virgin I may give it a go, but as it isn't even a choice for me currently then it's a no from me. The lineups have varied wildly, some of the Friday Night stuff has been filler, but the main events have been decent so far. Can't argue with Katsidis vs Burns, Smith vs Groves, the DeGale euro fight and the opening night they had with Appleby vs Walsh.

If they can maintain any sort of quality it might be worth it, but I can see them struggling to keep funding big fights and maintain it. I would love for an out and out boxing channel to be a big success, but I just think the timing is probably wrong.

What boxing needs is more terrestrial/mainstream coverage to get a new generation on board, not going underground to 10-20 thousand hardcore fans, preaching to the converted.

At this moment in time would you rather be Tyson Fury building his career on Channel 5, seen by millions, a Sky fighter seen by 100-200k, or would you rather be an upcoming Warren fighter buried on Allegedly channel seen by 10-20k (when it goes subscriber only)?
If this was on BT Vision I'd subscribe. I need to record most fights to watch the next morning and I can't do that with an internet subscription.
