Neil Malpass info
I'm reading a book and a part that im on mentions a fight between Peter Freeman and Neil Malpass. Malpass stopped Freeman in 2 rounds and retired from the game. Malpass however went on to a little minor success, and fought some decent guys, one was Proud kilimanjaro (who died in 1994 under what circumstances??)
Malpass seemed to be touted as a good boxer with skill and power, but i saw him fight Manny Burgo and was very dissapointed in his skill and lack of power shots, to me Malpass seemed to slap more that punch.
Anyway, ive searched Google for info on Malpass as he retired in 1990 but cannot find any information at all. Some years ago Yorkshire TV made a documentary about Malpass but i cannot find anything on that either.
Has anyone got any info regarding Malpass, and maybe up to date stories on what he does now or where in the UK he lives, i guess he will be approaching 60.

Great. Here are a few questions.dannymitchell wrote:Hi,
Neil Malpass now lives in Doncaster. He is 50 years old now and still actively trains in boxing. I train with him every Friday night so if you want any info i could ask him personally.
Any questions for him just post them here.
Where in the donny area does he live
what does neil think of paul sykes as a boxer, im reading a book written by sykes and sykes says he was not interested in malpass in the 2nd fight so he just went through the motions to get a draw. He says the fight was meaningless.
did neil think Sykes had the tools to go all the way to the top, maybe if he started younger and stayed out of the nick.
Im sure neil trained out of the john Rushton stable late on so is there any info regarding Mick Corden. I went to Newcastle with mick a lot of years ago, he was supposed to fight Steve Gee i think but for some reason the fight was cancelled when we got there. It was on the undercard of Westgarth v/s Garside fight.
Is the gym still under the pub in Armthorpe, i think where Woodcock train years earlier.
Thanks very much.

I will ask him on Fri.
He helps a few lads with training for boxing now at a gym above the Donny Warehouse rave. (He actually works on the door there too!) He does a bit of sparring and pad holding and hes not in bad shape! If fact he admitted last week that he probably has more of a thirst for training now than he did when he was actively boxing. Shame init!
Might actually have some suprise news about malpass. I will confirm it on Friday.
The gym under the pub in armthorpe (Tadcaster) is no longer in use. I went there the other day to ask about setting up a club there but the owners wernt interested.
Will post more soon

Re: Neil Malpass info
hi
In regards to the updated info on Neil Malpass, he trains most nights of the week and has found a new interest in ju jitsu, and tai boxing which he attends with his two sons and has done so for the past eight years. He has helped many cage fighters train for stand up and fully intends to have a fight in the cage himself. Neil is very fit and well, he takes great plessure in the boxing classes which he teaches in the martial arts club.

A good mate of mine [boxing] trains with him every week, says he's pretty funny and a nice guy and in decent shape and got a good level of enthusiasm for the training.

hi
is this in the classes that he trains or one of the other boxing clubs that he goes to with his younger son? Neil is very fit and is still very enthusiastic for the sport.

i meant to say one of the classes that he teaches or one of the other clubs.
Re: Neil Malpass info
I think it's classes - It's at a proper boxing gym and from what my mate says, Neil does the coaching/training. He works them hard but judging from what he says to them it's good stuff. Don't know where it is without asking. He wants me to go but I'm not overly enthusiastic about it.polly24 wrote:hi

Hi
This will be the classes he does at the martial arts club, you should get your self there even if just for fitness. Neils two sons train there with him and they also go to the tai boxing classes and ju jitsu they are a good group of people.
