Yes I've boxed as a bantam as a boy and feather as a youth, I sparred heavies and it was hard, I've a chronic neck and sternum injury because of it.


However I am not Harry Greb, nor one millionth the fighter he was so its not a valid comparison. Ruiz is shite, Greb is great with a reputation for beating the crap out of heavier men, guys who would wipe the street with Ruiz.

I ask again, who are the heavier men that would wipe the street with Ruiz?

A few could be about the same size and about as good as Ruiz, but none that Greb beat would definitely wipe the floor with Ruiz. It is true that Greb lost to two great middleweights (not as great as Greb). But both had totally different styles and both weighed about 40 lbs heavier than greb would ever weight. Not that this is the be all and end all, i still Greb beats Ruiz (though i think Monzon, Hagler, and many other great middleweights beat him). The fact is though, Ruiz is not without his chances and would be a live underdog. It is very unlikely that Greb KOs ruiz in a 10 or 12 rounder because he virtually KOd noone in this distance, but a 20 rounder or finish fight might be very interesting.

I would confidently pick Billy Miske, Charley Weiner, Bill Brennan, Jack Renault, and Gene Tunney to soundly kick Ruiz's a$$.

I was just listing the guys around Ruiz's size . . lift that barrier and I'd favor even more of Greb's opponents, including Dillon and Gibbons (probably both of them)

Who said that's how Greb would fight him? From what I understand he was actually quite a skilled technical boxer when he could be bothered, and was known for his foot speed and the ability to open up and close the distance with great quickness. Popping in, flurrying, popping back out, etc. I figure that's how he'd fight Ruiz.

When you think about it though, from a stylistic point of view, doesnt the in and out come forward style pretty much describe Roy Jones quite reasonably well?

Well to simply argue the point. Have any of you boxed? (Not belittling anyone's opinion) Out of the lot that says yes have you ever boxed a much larger man around 70-80 pounds larger that was in shape? It can be a different ball game. Off of the names alone it is a no brainer. Greb is a legend and in my top 3 all time. Ruiz is...well Ruiz. I just don't believe a come forward windmill style would suit the smaller fighter too well in this match-up. It's easy to point out what Roy Jones and Toney did but they were slick and elusive and also bulked up. An example of a very good swarmer vs a mediocre giant would be Adamek vs Michael Grant. Adamek struggled greatly and Grant is horrid but the size alone troubled him . Not saying Greb couldn't pull it off but this isn't a walk in the park.

Harry Greb was the SLICKEST , most elusive fighter ever, because his best defense was his offense. Greb punched Big bill Brennan ,a 200lb heavyweight full of holes in FOUR BOUTS, winning by all accounts most EVERY round...Short of a wrestling bout, Greb kucks the tar out of the slow mediocre John Ruiz...Out of thousands of possible "fantasy bouts, this makes the least sense, IMO...

Tis but a fantasy match-up . It would make less sense for you to call Greb the most elusive fighter ever seeing that all anyone knows of Greb is based off of pure hearsay and speculation and in saying that I've never seen anything stating that Greb was elusive.
