Ernesto Marcel v. Eusebio Pedroza.
Ernesto Marcel v. Eusebio Pedroza.
Who wins between the two greatest Panamanian featherweights ever? I have no doubt it would go the distance. Why did Marcel retire after having thrashed Arguello?

Re: Ernesto Marcel v. Eusebio Pedroza.
That analysis is a little simple. Arguello wasn't what he ultimately became. He (Marcel) retired quite young.
But he beat quality comp, including Antonio Gomez twice. He also should've gotten the nod over Shibata. His reign was short but good. He also beat Serrano in a non-title fight (and lost to Leonel Hernandez in another).

Close fight, but when it's all added up, I think Eusebio takes a SD over Ernesto, and with less fouls than you expect.

If they wore the same trunks, you wouldn't be able to keep score. They were mirror copies of each other.
Maybe Marcel with better lateral movement.

Do you know why he retired?boxbible wrote:If they wore the same trunks, you wouldn't be able to keep score. They were mirror copies of each other.

"... he felt he was not making enough money from the sport and openly admitted that although he was aware that he could go on fighting at the highest level for many more years, the training and dedication required to stay in top shape was just too much and his heart was no longer in it. Marcel retired as Featherweight Champion of the world, one of the very few to do so and I believe the only one from Panama to do so, however, his belt was picked up by worthy hands, in one Ruben Olivares who would later in life would lose the belt to Arguello." - Bal KangRover wrote:Do you know why he retired?boxbible wrote:If they wore the same trunks, you wouldn't be able to keep score.
