The Lionhearts lost 5-0 so they are eliminated. The Swedish boxer Kamara came closest to winning losing a close one 2-1.Next season they will have to beef up their away team.
Astana also won 5-0 so join Mexico in the semis.
Two more quarter-finals tomorrow

Stupid management, should have sent two of Nevin, Selby or Ward away, Maxwell or Kamara would have won at home.

Azerbaijan beat Ukraine 4-1 which was enough to put Ukraine in the final.
The last bout was Lomachenko v Selimov and the Ukrainian came very close to losing with scores of 48-47,48-47,47-48.No doubt Selimov is the World Number Two.
Poland v Italy is live now on WSBTV.

Its about money-so the franchises are going to put their best boxers in the home leg-to sell tickets, although if you reach the semis there is one more home fixture.I assume Freddie Evans could not box because he was stopped against Mitrofanov earlier in the month-that could have changed things.

One bright spot for the Lionhearts Andrew Selby looks likely to contest the Bantamweight individual final against Elias Emigdio.
Joe Joyce and Joe Ward will probably just miss out.
McCracken feels that Altitude was the problem with the Lionhearts loss in Mexico.

I think they said there will not be any individual finals this year, only team competition :( .

Makes sense. The individual title is probably only relevant in an Olympic year.
Although an individual final gives an opportunity for the Boxers to compete in a final.

I just watched the Lomachenko-Selimov fight. Those two are highly talented and it was a very close fight. Selimov has excellent reflexes and defense; I had never seen him before. I can see both of these guys becoming excellent pros, though Lomachenko needs to fight more like a pro.

Italy won their first leg against Ukraine which must have surprised both teams.Usyk was the only winner with Denis Berinchuk losing to Branamir Stankovic and Willie McLaughlin beating Evgeni Barabanov.

I suppose it depends on the popularity of the WSB. Reasonably I would infer no they couldn`t. They do however get benefits and a steady paycheck in the WSB. I have heard that Lomachenko will go pro, not sure what he is waiting for but based on the fact that he is fighting top amateurs should allow him to climb quickly through the pro ranks if and when he chooses. He needs a more professional approach to the game and would do well for himself to join GGG in Big Bear or Robert Garcia`s camp, where many Eastern European fighters train.

I wonder why Arum or Gb didn't seek his talents since he at a young age and talented? It will. Be interesting to see if he stays around for another Olympics

Richard Schaeffer ripped the organization that signed Lomachenko because of the way they operated during the Olympics, so I am sure they contacted him or wanted to: http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1743 ... -rips-aiba . I hope he doesn`t stick around to attempt another try at a gold medal. I would rather him go pro.

The second legs of the semis take place this weekend and although Ukraine have home advantage and field a strong line-up they trail by 4-1 and may not find qualifying that simple.
Tony Yoka may give Italy the one win they need to take it into a sudden-death play-off.
They lead with Lomachenko,Gvozdik and Mitrofanov and they should all win.

Ukraine won the second leg 5-0 but it was close, Gvozdik and Arkhipenko winning their bouts by narrow margins.

Kazakhstan won their second leg against Italy 5-0 and will face Lomachenko's Ukraine in the final.
The rematch between Mitrofanov and Derevyancenko will be interesting.

I saw a guy the other night who was 8-2 and they said his two losses were in the "World Series of Boxing" I didn't know those fights counted on your Pro Record until then. Might make a few more guys a little more hesitant to compete in it, as losing to an Elite amateur is a lot more likely than losing to a novice Professional.

It only counts as pro bouts in the US as far as I can tell.
