I believe it is. This father-son thing is a quite interesting topic. I was watching a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last night, and Larry Merchant pointed out that no great fighter has ever had a son who became a great fighter. Interesting point.
I did some checking out on this and discorvered that the closest thing to a great father-great son would have to be Billy and Buster Douglas. Billy was a midleweight who fought several name fighters, including Matthew Saad Muhammad, Bennie Briscoe and Marvin Johnson. All these fights were losses. Still, he was the first fighter to claim the Super-Middleweight title, or rather the Junior Light-Heavyweight title as it was known as in 1974, and he is in the history books as the first title claimant in that division.
His son, Buster, needs no further descrition as he likely is a future Hall of Famer like all other heavyweight champions.
The only fathers and sons who could give them an argument would have to be Joe and Marvis Frazier. Joe's credentials are unquestioned of course, and Marvis was probaly a better heavyweight than Billy Douglas was a middle/Super-middleweight. However, Marvis is not in the history books as a title claimant.
Other fathers and sons who gave their shot; Bob and Young Bob Fitzsimmons, Roy and Roy Jones Jr., Jose and Erik Morales, Marcel and Marcel Cerdan Jr., Guty and Guty Espadas Jr. and Jersey Joe and Jersey Joe Walcott jr. Only one of them did well as pros.
Some other useful ones were Floyd and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd Sr. was a top 10 fighter at his best.
The Camacho's Hector and Hector Jr. were good, although I don't think Hector Jr. is going anywhere.
There's probably many more, but at the end one can't agree with Merchant's observation; no great fighter ever had a son who became a great fighter.

..i was just checking boxrec for something else and read the comment about harold johnson collapsing without being hit and the cause was a bad back.
this is puzzling as i recall seeing that fight...and of course memory can be deceptive...but i just remember a clean knockout.....and the other ending would be so unusual that i'd think it would stay in my mind. plus...i don't remember reading at the time of the fight anything but a straight knockout.
so...i'll also ask...is there anyone here who can find something written about the fight concurrent with it?
i was putting on a sock and had my foot partly in the air and sneezed and it popped a disc in my lower back and i was laid up for five days. (i don't get much chance to work that into a conversation so i do it at any time i can find an excuse.....and hey....this is about a back problem)
