Is that the 'best' you can do.
It didn't take a large amount of 'brains' to know that Martin Luther King should have been
recognized for his great stride for equal rights.
John McCain.,,,,,,,,,,'a blockhead'........and a poor Pilot.
OK you are being too clever by half. McCain is no racist you know this. Arizona was backing an alternative to MLK day, and he was representing the state of AZ. They wished for it to be called "Civil Rights Day" as not to make it a pledge to anyone one man/woman. But a celebration of the human spirit. This was NOT meant to disrespect King's memory...only to share this with the many men and women who strived mightily to achieve change.
Only you could spin this into something perverse. It was only meant to share the glory of such achievement with many. It was an idea that did not prevail in favor of making it in MLK's honor. MLK would have likely approved the shared version, as he was a humble man. In an odd quirk of fate, we did sort of depersonalize the various president's days, and collapse them into "Presidents Day" while making the Civil Rights celebration a personal honoring of King.
Nothing overly "good" or "bad" in any of those scenarios. But the differences of opinions did create an atmosphere of tension as those details were worked out. You can't make this stuff up.
Well....except for our friend Il Duce....who does a good job with fiction.
