Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Is this fight gonna happen? I know it was being talked about but all's gone quite.
Golovkin did not look particularly devastating against Curtis Stevens I know it was a step up and anyone can dip a bit in a fight but he struggled to get him finished.
I think broke his will to carry on would be an accurate description rather than stopped him.
I was really getting caught up in the hype following his quick despatch of Macklin I think Murray is a stronger test and Golovkin does get hit .
He is calling out Martinez albeit under duress that's unlikely to happen and he is massively on the wane.
I wanna see Murray in with him a live durable hungry opponent will cause Golovkin problems . IMO

Murray is good fighter but he hasnt got a hope in hell against Golovkin. GGG not only delivers a great shot but can take one aswell. He took stevens's left hooks flush and didnt even seem to flinch. Murray would/will get systematically broken and if not stopped he'll take a bad beating over 12.

I think your selling him short there mate and buying into the hype a bit.columbo wrote:Murray is good fighter but he hasnt got a hope in hell against Golovkin. Steven's was throwing them usually having just eaten a jab he did not look great to me and GGG should have done a much better job on him.
Martin rises to the occasion put in good showings against Sturm and Martinez as did Macklin but I think its harsh to say he would not have a hope.

i don't think the man to beat GGG, ultimately, will be a basically fairly static guy, which Murray is.
i think ultimately it would be an extremely ring-savvy mover who would be stylistically best matched with GGG

They're both HBO fighters and HBO are interested in the fight.TJ77 wrote:Not likely to be made though is it.columbo wrote:Like a ward.Counter-puncher wrote:i don't think the man to beat GGG, ultimately, will be a basically fairly static guy, which Murray is.

Murray would cause him problems, Golovkin has never faced a good big middleweight and Murrays peek-a-boo defence may cause him problems. Steven's isn't world class but he frustrated GGG quite a bit and as we saw Martinez couldn't hurt Murray. GGG isn't as hard to hit as Martinez so I think Murray would have his moments. Besides Martinez I don't think there is another middleweight who has a better chance to make a fight of it. But of course my money would be on Golovkin too.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Are they likey to cook their Golden Goose Golovkin in a borefest which is how a casual would view it.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
GGG would stop Murray late. I can't see one single aspect where Murray would hold an advantage.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
To be honest, we dont actually know how good Murray's chin is yet. I know people say that he wasnt hurt against Martinez and that's true but that's also because he has a high tight guard. Golovkin i imagine would really put it on him.Deserter wrote:GGG would stop Murray late. I can't see one single aspect where Murray would hold an advantage.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Golovkin by KO. Macklin's pretty big at the weight and look what happened to him. If Murray kept coming forward and put Golovkin onto the back foot he would be able to take him late into the fight but Golovkin gets to him in the end. The only fighter I can see beating him right now is Ward. The Martinez of a couple of years ago would have beaten him, but now he gets knocked out too.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
GGG performed a systematic breakdown of Stevens who himself would destroy Murray, to say he was not devastating is very harsh, think prime Chavez snr or Mike McCallum dissecting a capable opponent. He also proved he has a granite chin and nerve.

What has Stevens done for you to think he would destroy Murray? How have you come to this conclusion?dapug wrote:GGG performed a systematic breakdown of Stevens who himself would destroy Murray, to say he was not devastating is very harsh, think prime Chavez snr or Mike McCallum dissecting a capable opponent. I like Murray and i'd be happy to see him get the fight but I'm not sure he has what it takes but I'm sure he'd give it a good go.
Golovkin's whiskers have shown no vulnerability so far an the way he DIGS those right hands in.. He does everyone at middle.

Golovkin would level Murray sadly
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
I have to admit I really didnt rate Murray he seemed solid but did nothing special. Decent skills but no speed not much power but he has proven himself to be one of the top middleweights in the world. I do doubt however that he could live with Golovkin. That said I thought he would be embarrassed by Martinez so who knows.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Im kind of with you on that. Part of me wonders whether the Martinez fight flatters him somewhat in the sense of whether it was Martinez's decline more than Murray being that good.wrimc wrote:I have to admit I really didnt rate Murray he seemed solid but did nothing special. Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
Its tough I think Martinez is almost certainly on the decline. I think Macklin, Barker, the last round of Chavez and the Murray fight were all quite taxing in their own way non were easy wins. Chavez would have been but he took a bit of a beating in the last session and he is a reflex based fighter fighting at 38. Murray is clearly on the ascendancy gave a decent effort versus Sturm and fought a good fight against Martinez but I still find it hard to convince myself that he is potentially the best of Macklin Barker and Lee.columbo wrote:Im kind of with you on that. Murray would by some distance be GGGs biggest test.
So of course if Golovkin is going 8 rounds with Stevens and being tagged, then a guy who dropped Martinez twice in a stadium in Argentina has more than enough tools to go the distance and or win vs GGG.
Murray was too defensive early doors vs Sturm and Martinez and if he wasn't he would have won both decisively.
That said, perhaps the frustration he caused in his opponents opened up the opportunities he expoloited in later rounds.
Murray is substantially bigger than GGG - he looks a weight class above him in all honesty.
He could definitely cause an upset and will be a VERY live underdog in this fight

Murray doesnt hit anywhere near as hard as Stevens though and Golovkin walked right through the punchesMaxsplit wrote:Murray would by some distance be GGGs biggest test.

Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
GGG is not loosing at Middleweight and his best chance of loosing is at Super Middle.
Re: Murray v GGG.. Martin could upset the apple cart
It's not always about how powerful you are, timing is also essential, I think Martin can win this and the more GGG fights the more he looks human.columbo wrote:Murray doesnt hit anywhere near as hard as Stevens though and Golovkin walked right through the punchesMaxsplit wrote:Murray would by some distance be GGGs biggest test.
