Hatton was another level, but neary was always entertaining.

Hatton was world class neary a fringe contender but would of made a decent fight I believe with the clash of styles I'd say late stoppage

prime for prime hatton would of beat neary but neary was in his prime when hatton was just coming through so if neary would of fought hatton around the ward fight 2000 then i think neary would of been too strong imo. and btw i think ward of stopped hatton too

Ward wouldn't have stopped Hatton, he was an average fighter that had 3 absolute wars with Arturo Gatti, losing two of them, whenever he fought anyone world class he was well beaten.

So your saying gatti wasnt world class then? Ward would of gave hatton big problems,he is a better one punch body puncher than hatton and,as we all know, hatton is weak to the body.

Hatton would have outworked Ward, but probably wouldn't have made a dent. Like you say, there would have been a tangible danger in the come-from-behind, left-hook to the body Ward patented.

Since when was Hatton weak to the body? Because Senchenko did him with a body shot? I wouldn't say Gatti was world class, and if he was, he wasn't on Hatton's level, he didn't beat a world class light welterweight and was battered by Mayweather.

Hatton, in his pomp, would have comfortably beat Neary, Ward AND Gatti. Put the mortgage on it.

The last two are massively over rated. Hollywood, the wars they had against each other and Gatti's death seemed to have elevated both guys to a level they didnt really reach when fighting.

Since he got stopped as an am since he was hurt by urango and since he got stopped by senchenco,he was weak to the body. Tell me this apart from de la hoya and castillo who didnt get battered by mayweather, hatton himself got battered by mayweather, people blame cortez but in reality cortez helped hatton go ten rounds with floyd, gatti got sucker punched by floyd after the ref said break which was the start of the end for him in that fight. Tell me a major world class fighter that hatton beat to make him world class,a super feather in castillo? A tyszu who had been in active for 11 months? Maybe the gift he got against collazo? Maybe a one dimensional urango? Hatton made the best of bad crop and good on him but face facts he wasnt world class himself imo. The best fight of hattons career was probably ben tackie,he proved he could do more than just come forward body punch

That entire post is the biggest load of donkey dick I have ever read on this forum, worse than bnovelist, kronk, brut and chepaaaa. So he got stopped as an amateur, big deal, he turned pro at 18 so he was a kid when it happened. Because Urango hurt him he's weak to the body? The Senchenko fight was after 3 1/2 years out and he didn't exactly live the life during that time. None of that makes him weak to the body, as far as I know Senchenko is the only man to drop him with a body shot. Hatton took a couple of rounds off Mayweather early on which is far more than Gatti did, Mayweather doesn't batter many fighters, just schools them, but Gatti was blown away and to suggest it was because he was hit on the break is ridiculous, how does that explain Mayweather hitting him with more or less every right hand he threw? If you seriously think Hatton wasn't world class, I think it's time you got some mental help, he beat Tszyu, who was top 3 P4P, had fought 7 months earlier, not 11, beating Sharmba Mitchell in 3 rounds after taking 7 in the first fight where Mitchell retired with an injury. Maussa was WBA Champion when Hatton beat him, Collazo was WBA Welterweight Champion, Urango was IBF Champion and went on to win the title again, Malignaggi was IBF Champion before the fight, Castillo was world champion at lightweight and Hatton beat numerous solid fighters during his WBU reign, although not world class ones. "Cortez helped Hatton go 10 rounds with Floyd", ah, yes, by preventing him from working on the inside where he was at his best and deducting a point after he hit the rope and Mayweather had ducked down to his knees. He beat Collazo, it was close, but he beat him, not a gift in any way, Urango the 2 time world champion, but of course he was one dimensional so he doesn't count.

I liked to watch Neary after reading about him beating a local fighter in an early career bout; he hit the lad on the shoulder and he bailed out and didn't want to know so I looked forward to Neary boxing on TV; his prime seemed pretty short and he beat some good fighters and was in some good scraps. Hatton was a better boxer and picked his punches better - he had a really good amateur grounding and Neary learned a lot sparring abroad in lieu of amateur experience. I think a bout between Shea and Ricky would have been similar to the Hatton/Magee bout - entertaining and exciting but with Hatton boxing well and getting a deserved points verdict.

(Who stopped Hatton as an amateur? I remember reading Pat Barrett dropped him with a body punch when he was 15 years old and Pat was European champion).

What I meant was, sometimes people look back on dead people achievements more kindly than if they weren't dead. Happens with musicians and sportsmen all the time.

In reality Gatti always lost when against world class opposition and he even lost against a fighter in Ward, who was never, ever world class.

Hatton was a world class fighter. That's why he beats both Gatti and Ward everyday of the week and he would have beat Neary like a ginger step child.

hatton would of been tested to the best of his ability by all three wether you think their world class or not. gatti was world class ward was fringe world class and neary was a tough domestic fighter who gave his all in every fight. hatton would of known he was in a fight with all of them.

See, for me, Gatti was fringe world class, Ward below that and Neary just below Ward.

Hatton vs Gatti would have been a cracking fight, but one that Hatton wins by a fair margin. Again, the gap would be wider against Ward and wider still against Neary ( I think Hatton would stop both of them, possibly Gatti too )
