Is Froch vs Groves worthy of PPV

If sky aren't prepared to put in the money necessary then the real question is - do people want to see the fight or not? If without PPV then Matchroom likely lose money on the event - can't really blame them for not fancying that.

The promotion will make money for sure, I agree with you on a lot of things but think that a PPV on this bout is just to cream more money off the fans; Groves won't be getting a million quid and the undercard is crap, the venue may cost a lot to hire for the night but the tickets have gone well and aren't cheap. This ought to be a regular defence, they've not even had to pay air fare for George.

There are very few fights I would be prepared to pay to view these days.

I paid for Froch-Kessler 2 because I knew it would be worth it. It couldn't fail to excite.

But as has been mentioned before the casual fan won't know much about Groves so can't see the sales doing very well.

Could possibly be poor sales for this PPV. Even the people who would buy this fight whatever, are feeling hard done by. Apart from people seeing the PPV adverts on Sky, it's not a big enough fight for the potential PPV buying public to get excited about through the media. Most people won't see the adverts, watch the build up via ringside etc.

For £15, people want a big fight and a decent undercard. What we'll get is most of the Matchrooms prospects knocking over journey men, telling us how great they all are and then Froch-Groves, which should be a decent spectacle but a fairly one-sided bout in most peoples eyes, other than those hyping up George's chances.

Definite no for me. I already shell out 60 odd quid a month for the Sky package and a tenner for allegedly.

I (naively) thought that Sky were supposed to be doing away with PPV once allegedly launched but that didn't last long. I can just about cope with Sky charging PPV for a world class main event with a solid undercard maybe once a year, but had the Haye fight happened then within the space of a couple of months we'd be expected to fork out extra for two average nights of boxing that should fall within regular subscription fee.

Exactly this point! To me a PPV is about the whole event not just one fighter on the bill. The only way Froch v Groves would be worth PPV money would be if Haye v Fury was on the same bill as well as something like Quigg v Frampton. But of course that will never happen!

This isn't a major event though, just a fight between the top 2 fighters domestically, neither of which are #1 in the world, for a world title. I will be watching as well, don't know if the dreambox has it, if it doesn't I will stream it.

Despite spin doctors Fast Car Eddie and his old man saying this is the biggest fight since Eubank and Benn they have not managed to convince or deceive Joe Public into to buying into it - Personally I think the PPV will flop it's a decent enough card with some decent names dont get me wrong but how many of the are really 50/50 fights.

Froch - Groves could be a classic but it's never a PPV fight and it's about time Sky/Matchroom started putting on decent cards for general subscription viewers - everytime there is a half decent fight now it's going to PPV.

For me it's not about Froch vs Groves being worthy - because hell if they can put people like Khan vs Salita, or the Magnificent Three on pay-per-view then this card is light years ahead in terms of headline fight and depth of undercard.

The argument is not this particular fight, but in Sky customers paying "extra" when they already charge us plenty per annum and in general.

In the context of Khan vs Salita, Degale vs Groves, Audley vs Haye - then yes it's worthy of box office status.

But should subscribers pay more than they already do? then no they do not.

Here’s what I ask myself…

Even if I were given a free ticket for the event… I’d still have to get the train up to town… Spend on drinks…food… Probably get a worse view… Have to avoid the odd scuffle on the way home… Have to get a taxi back from the station…probably in the rain
